Educational and Experience Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Digital Media, Communications, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field is required. Two years of experience required in one or more of the following areas: social media, news reporting, or digital production or in a related field; with three years preferred.
Nature & Purpose of Position:
Responsible for shaping Sam Houston State University’s (SHSU) social media identity, ensuring brand consistency across all platforms, and actively engaging in the expansion of SHSU’s online community.
Primary Responsibilities:
Creates a university social media content strategy, framed around the strategic priorities and brand of the university. Serves as the voice of Sam Houston State University (SHSU) through daily management of social media channels. Supervises and provides assistance to student workers. Coordinates content assignments to students. Generates content tailored for various communication platforms, encompassing everything from impactful announcements to journalistic narratives and interview pieces. Develops, manages, and maintains the social media calendar. Provides “live” social media coverage at select university events. Evaluates current practices in social media, recommends ways to improve delivery and overall quality, explores new ways to engage target audiences. Collaborates with the Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) analytics team in the analysis of data to measure effectiveness in delivering brand messages and building engagement. Assists with establishing goals and objectives. Monitors compliance with policies and procedures. Applies skills in the use of digital assets (photo, video, and infographics) for enhancing content. Responds to questions from social media followers. Monitors public feedback pertaining to the university on social media platforms. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to manage business functions. Communicates with other university departments, personnel, and other agencies.
This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
