The Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering in the School of Engineering at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (New Brunswick Campus), invites applications for an academic year (10 months) research assistant professor position, beginning September 1, 2022. The position will be a calendar year contract, with the possibility of renewal. Salary and title will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics and postdoctoral experience in computational chemical engineering. Responsibilities include: directing the computational laboratory for molecular design of nanomaterials, performing independent research on computer simulation of complex chemical and biological engineering systems, guiding undergraduate, MS, and Ph.D. students and postdocs, and developing novel simulation methods and software packages for original molecular dynamics and dissipative particle dynamics techniques, including atomistic and coarse-grained interaction potentials, preparing and writing grant proposals for governmental agencies and industrial companies, preparing teaching units for advanced graduate classes on molecular simulations.
Required knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with strong experience in computational modeling of complex chemical and biological systems, supervising students of different levels, writing grant proposals, and managing research projects as a team leader. Proficiency in high-performance computing and programming in C++, Fortran, Linux, AMBER, GROMACS, and LAMMPS is required.
COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine. Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience
Minimum of a doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field and demonstrated evidence of effective teaching and student services.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The candidate should demonstrate strong potential for and commitment to teaching and leading instruction in undergraduate core courses in support of the CBE curriculum, which includes courses in material and energy balances, thermodynamics, transport, computational methods, kinetics, separations, process control, biochemical engineering, and design. The successful candidate will employ evidence-based teaching practices, student-centered learning approaches, and industry relevant content in a chemical engineering context. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills. Familiarity with experiential learning programs is preferred but not required.
