JOB SUMMARY:
To plan, organize and implement an appropriate Science Learning Standards in an elementary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal.
POSITION: Science Teacher – 3K- 5 –1 Position (September 2022-June 2023)
Qualifications:
1. Experience teaching Science to grades PreK-5 preferred.
2. Ability to work collaboratively with all teaching staff.
3. Good record of attendance and punctuality.
4. Possess an NYC Teaching License (Common Branches)
5. Experience providing staff development in Science.
6. Experience with organizing science tests, including the 4th-grade state test preferred
7. Experience utilizing the scientific method and hands-on activities to teach science that will meet the individual needs of students.
8. Satisfactory attendance and punctuality record.
9. Evidence of classroom instruction aligned to N.Y.S. Standards
10. Highly Effective or Effective rating for the last 3 consecutive years evidenced in ADVANCE
Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct instruction Science to grades 3K-5 utilizing the NYS & NYC Science Curriculum
2. Coordinate school and district-wide activities that involve Science and other Science related objectives as required by the school and/or the D.O.E. (example: Science Fair)
3. Responsible for integrating Science with other content areas using interdisciplinary techniques and approaches
4. Collaborate with classroom teachers in designing and implementing a schoolwide comprehensive Science Curriculum as mandated by the
D.O.E.
5. On-going articulation with classroom teachers to further develop extension activities within the
Science curriculum
6. Incorporate hands-on activities and the use of science equipment and kits into daily Science lesson
7. Develop a comprehensive science curriculum utilizing new science material ( ie. Harcourt, FOSS, etc)
8. Use technology (computers, Smart Boards, Internet) to delivering instruction
9. Design and plan differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
10. Maintain student data with diagnostic, formative and summative assessments on all students; monitoring students’ academic growth, and providing RTI when needed
11. Coordinating New York State Science Exams
*Salary will be based on the DOE pay scale and years of experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year
