The Senior Director for Data Governance, reporting to the University Data Officer, leads the development and implementation of a data governance program to ensure that shared, strong and consistent practices are incorporated into relevant systems and workflows. The position also oversees data literacy training for campus information consumers that promotes responsible use of information to support effective decision-making and planning. This position works closely with a broad range of the Princeton University’s leaders, administrative offices, and information users, and requires a balance of strategic acumen, expertise implementing best practice data governance approaches, and collaborative skills to manage and support change across the institution.
The University Data Office is a unit within the Office of the Provost with responsibility for developing and incorporating a campus-wide data strategy to enable strategic decision making by serving as the nexus between the strategic questions, the data resources, the technical solutions, and the consumers of information.
Data governance and data literacy are essential pillars of the University’s data strategy. The application of standards for consistent data collection and quality, access, definition, and protection will enable offices to harvest insights from data to support operations and strategic planning. New training and support programs will promote information sharing, foster transparency, and emphasize accountability and responsible use.
The Senior Director for Data Governance works closely with institutional leaders, data stewards and subject matter experts, analysts and data scientists, and IT partners to implement a data management framework and guidelines to ensure enterprise data are accurate, complete, reliable, and secure. The position will direct the development of a data literacy program that supports key roles in effectively and responsibly using information. The position will build a team of data governance and data literacy specialists to work across the institution in facilitating these objectives.
