JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
As the locus for Penn State’s global engagements, Penn State Global provides opportunities for those seeking a career in the field of international education. Penn State Global is seeking a highly motivated critical thinker to serve as the Global Safety Coordinator. The coordinator will be part of Global Safety – a team of professionals who implement Penn State Global’s policies, procedures, best practices, and training for the health, safety, and security of Penn State students, faculty, and staff traveling internationally. The coordinator manages travel registration and tracking of international travelers, reviews international travel records, and assists travelers with the university’s international health insurance.
Key duties:
Manage travel registration and track international travelers.
Coordinate with the Office of Ethics and Compliance regarding Export Control procedures and reviews international travel records.
Facilitate communication between the international insurance provider and university travelers.
Conduct travel risk assessments and analyses of study abroad and non-credit programs for individuals and groups.
Assist in the development and administration of Global Safety orientations, seminars, and workshops for faculty, staff, and students.
Coordinate with the university’s international emergency medical insurance provider and assists university travelers with insurance procedures.
Assist the Global Safety Analyst in research, analysis, and reporting of significant international developments and incidents impacting university travelers.
Support the Global Safety Analysts manage the restricted travel petitions and communications with potential travelers and stakeholders.
Take part in a rotating on-call schedule for the Global Safety duty phone responding to critical incidents which may necessitate after-hour, weekend, or holiday communication.
Conduct predeparture briefings to individuals traveling to restricted destinations.
The position interacts with a broad spectrum of internal and external constituents – including students, faculty, senior university administrators, and businesses. Global Safety maintains a weekday in-person presence of one or more employees on the University Park campus during business hours. Penn State Global is supportive of flexible work arrangements when aligned with the ability to meet the needs of the unit and the essential duties of the position. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, combining in-person and remote work. Education and Experience
Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher and two or more years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other experience preferences include, but are not limited to living, working, or traveling abroad; analysis; research capabilities; data processing; critical thinking; problem solving; and public speaking. Some domestic and international travel may be involved.
