Position Description
This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE (10-month) tenure track position as an Ethnic Studies instructor with an emphasis in African American studies. Under the general supervision of the Division Dean of Arts and Social Sciences, the Ethnic Studies Instructor will be responsible for teaching lower division courses in the Ethnic Studies program. Additional responsibilities will include developing new Ethnic Studies courses with an African American studies emphasis, maintaining curriculum for the department, collaborating with colleagues in the department in departmental matters, mentoring part-time faculty, growing enrollment in Ethnic Studies, mentoring students in Ethnic Studies, and facilitating on-campus and off-campus equity and diversity activities to support the program. The instructor is expected to effectively incorporate instructional technology into their teaching practice and utilize equity-based pedagogies. Participation as a full-time faculty member in department, division and campus-wide activities is required. The instructor may be required to have part of their teaching assignment in the evening and/or weekends and teach courses in-person at the Fremont and/or Newark campuses, online via the eCampus and/or an off-campus location. On site presence and willingness to teach online is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in African-American/Black/Africana Studies or Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/o Studies, or Asian-American Studies, or Native American/ American Indian Studies;
OR
Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies;ORthe equivalent;ANDCommitment to community college goals/objectives of being an equity-based and anti-racist institution, and providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests;ANDMust have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.

Contract Period
This is a regular probationary, tenure track, faculty position commencing Fall Semester 2024. The contract period is 175 days.
