We are seeking a highly passionate and motivated Research Scientist / Senior Scientist to join our team at Novartis Oncology Biotherapeutics in Cambridge, MA. This position is ideal for a candidate who is creative, highly collaborative, result-oriented and wishes to combine their curiosity about oncology, cancer immunology and drug discovery to save patients’ lives. In this role, you will have the opportunities to contribute to exploratory and innovative biotherapeutic drug discovery for cancer using a variety of different assays to independently support research in this area. The successful candidate will become a crucial part of a dynamic and multidisciplinary group with the opportunities to interact with other functional groups and to understand the process of preclinical drug discovery, that will eventually transform the lives of cancer patients.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
– Craft and perform experiments including in vitro assays to screen for immune cell engaging (ICE) antibodies or biologics
– Critically analyze and summarize data to support decision to progress project along the discovery pipeline
– Explore or interrogate current biology of emerging drug targets for validation
– Use automation and high-throughput system to support large scale ICE antibody screening
– Detailed documentation and organization of experimental results in electronic laboratory notebooks
– Present research updates clearly and optimally and participate in internal and external meetings
– Troubleshoot sophisticated problems in creative ways and actively participate in optimization of established procedures to ensure delivery on team goals
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between: Research Scientist: $84,000 – 126,000/year | Senior Scientist: $92,800 – 139,200/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
This position will be located at the Cambridge, MA site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position will require 0% travel as defined by the business (domestic and/ or international).This is a dual posting. The final level and title of the offered role would be determined by the hiring team based on the skills, experience and capabilities required to perform the role at the level the role has been offered (Research Scientist / Senior Scientist).
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE:
Essential:
– Research Scientist Level: BS Degree with 2+ years of experience or a MS with 0-2 years of experience. Experience in academia or industry in cancer immunotherapy, cancer biology, molecular biology, antibody therapeutics or related field.
– Senior Scientist Level: BS Degree with 4+ years of experience or a MS with 2-4 years of experience. Experience in academia or industry in cancer immunotherapy, cancer biology, molecular biology, antibody therapeutics or related field.
– Basic knowledge in immuno-oncology, immunology or cell and molecular biology
– Extensive hands-on expertise with immune cell isolation and culture, in vitro cell assay (especially T cell and monocyte/macrophage assays), and molecular techniques including transient/stable cell line generation, ELISA/MSD, and RT-qPCR
– Experience with functional immune cell assay techniques, including proliferation assay, cytokine profiling and cytotoxicity assays
– Capable of documenting experiments, analyzing, and interpreting data, as well as communicating results within a multi-disciplinary team environment
– Excellent communication and team collaboration skills
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
– Prior proven experience with antibodies or biologics drug discovery
– Experience with high-throughput instruments.
– Proficient at designing, executing, and analyzing multi-color flow cytometry assays for phenotypic characterization of mouse and human immune cell subsets
– Gene silencing, western blotting, and immunofluorescence
