Major Accountabilities
The accountabilities and responsibilities of the Head, NIBR Operational Excellence are to:
• Lead the deployment of Lean / Continuous Improvement methodologies to identify, evaluate, and implement process improvement opportunities. Work with cross-functional stakeholders in a research environment to improve processes in a sustainable and measurable way.
• Develop Operational Excellence strategy and roadmap, identifying and resourcing high-impact initiatives across NIBR. Ensure transparency of strategy and efforts to leadership and lead the process of management review of the Operational Excellence portfolio.
• Lead associates across international sites responsible for operational excellence and project / portfolio management, ensuring alignment of strategy and goals, coaching and career development.
• Utilize robust change management methodologies to engage stakeholders in the implementation of improvement initiatives. Develop, deploy and manage communication and change management plans.
• Support others to establish long-term goals and measurable targets for improvement based on a sound understanding and benchmarking of best-in-class. Establish mechanisms for reporting on appropriate quality, cycle-time, productivity, compliance and financial metrics.
• Serve as a key leader in NIBR’s portfolio advancement with the goal of decreasing the cycle-time of drug discovery through process improvement and waste reduction.
• Ensure appropriate project selection and prioritization and that resources are focused on realizing the most impactful opportunities.
• Form, lead and or coach multi-disciplinary operational excellence project teams and deliver on agreed milestones and targets. With business cases and resource justifications endorsed as required
• Promote a culture of operational excellence by serving as a mentor and coach to others, providing support and training in an engaging and actionable way. Be recognized as an internal expert who is sought out for advice and expertise in the application of Continuous Improvement tools and processes.
• Build a network of practitioners across NIBR and engage with other Novartis divisions as appropriate.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $183,200 and $274,800/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.What you will bring to the role:
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required; engineering or science major preferred
• Master’s degree desirable
• Deep experience in the discovery/ research environment.
• 8+ years working in Operational Excellence with a focus on Lean required, with experience in R&D or Drug Discovery highly desired
• Relevant qualifications to support deployment of Lean practices (Lean Six Sigma Black Belt preferred)
• Credible track record of delivering results, including previous implementation and leadership of continuous improvement programs
• Change management / transformational projects experience and ability to influence at all levels
• Project management, design thinking, problem-solving and team development skills
• Leadership in Matrix environment, Influencing skills
• High energy, relentless optimism in pursuit of achieving outcomes
• Multi-site or international experience, preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills including proven track record in facilitation, training, and presentation
