Job Purpose:
The Director, US Market Access Business Development & Licensing (BD&L) will lead the development of US market access assumptions for Business Development & Licensing deals. This role works cross-functionally with multiple US and International functions, including but not limited to:
• US & Global BD&L
• BD&L Finance
• US & Global Product Strategy
• US & Global Market Access (e.g., Strategic Pricing & Contracting, Market Access Early Pipeline)
• Global Strategy & Growth
• Public Policy
• Global Drug Development
Ultimately, this person will ensure that the organization has a coherent, well-supported view of US market access assumptions and how these are likely to evolve related to BD&L opportunities.
Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Providing well-supported US pricing, coverage, and suppression assumptions for all BD&L activities
• Working to define & inform assumptions, e.g.:
o Collaborating with other market access functions (e.g., market access product strategy, pricing and contracting) to identify appropriate analogues
o Anticipating impact of environmental factors (legislative, economic, clinical, advocacy)
o Engaging primary market research and leading secondary analytics to inform assumptions
• Partnering with other US BD&L functions (commercial, finance) to provide aligned US input into the global organization
• Leveraging relationships across the matrix to ensure assumptions and supporting rationale are well-understood
• Delivering concise and effective communications to Senior Leadership to ensure alignment around Market Access assumptions
• Providing market access input to divestment activities and to BD&L activities across all Novartis divisions/groups (e.g., Advanced Accelerator Applications, Novartis Gene Therapies)

The ideal location for this role is East Hanover, NJ site but remote work may be possible (there may be some restrictions based on legal entity). Please note that this role would not provide relocation as a result. If associate is remote, all home office expenses and any travel/lodging to specific East Hanover, NJ site for periodic live meetings will be at the employee’s expense. The expectation of working hours and travel (domestic and/or international) will be defined by the hiring manager. This position will require 15% travel.What You’ll Bring to the Role:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, Healthy Policy or equivalent preferred
Minimum Requirements:
• Minimum of 7 years of pharmaceutical experience in US Market Access or Finance, either in-house at a pharmaceutical company or in a consulting capacity
• Understanding, knowledge of and experience with US healthcare economics and the drivers of pharmaceutical demand
• Experience in market opportunity assessments and forecasting
• Comfort with multiple therapeutic areas
• Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills; equally comfortable “getting into the weeds” and synthesizing an executive summary
• High degree of emotional intelligence, adaptability and creativity
• Ability to navigate a matrixed organization and collaborate effectively, and consistently meet fast deadlines, even when operating with a high level of ambiguity

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $201,600.00 and $302,400.00 year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
