Position Title:Assistant Professor/Hospitality Leadership/Three Year TermDepartment:College of Technology and Occupational SciencesTerm of Assignment:Three Year TermTerm End Date, If Applicable: FLSA Status: Exempt = not eligible for overtimeWork Schedule: Salary:CompetitiveTravel:Less than 10%Brief Statement of DutiesBrief Statement of Duties:This three-year term position as an Assistant Professor of Hospitality Leadership within the College of Technology and Occupational Sciences is a campus-based position. This position will develop and teach various undergraduate courses in the lecture and laboratory format, including but not limited to courses such as Professional Cooking I and II, Food Service Sanitation, Procurement, Cost Control, Human Resources, Menu Development, Financial Management, and Operations Plan and Design.
Included within some course work is the operation of the program’s on-campus restaurant and course/program events serving the community. The faculty is responsible for course development to meet the needs of established objectives, assessing student learning outcomes, and advising students for individualized success. Course development is collaboration-oriented to serve the student and industry.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, the faculty will provide service to the department and university with selective program leadership responsibilities and committee assignments. The faculty will assist with the marketing and administration of the program as needed, seek professional development, participate in extracurricular service opportunities, and perform other assignments per departmental needs. Michigan ServSafe Instructor CertifiedRequired Minimum Work Experience:Three or more years of work experience as a hospitality organization leader focusing on all aspects of food service production, financial management, guest services, and leading teams. Experience is within the past ten years.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:– Advanced knowledge and skills relating to classical and trending culinary arts practices.
– Ability to educate a diverse student body in the detail-oriented skills, knowledge, and best practices of culinary arts essential to today’s industry, adapting to the student body’s needs to ensure material retention and student success.
– Knowledge of accounting, budgeting, procurement procedures, and principles specific to the hospitality industry.
– Commitment to maintaining knowledge regarding laws and regulations relevant to industry and region.
– Ability to assertively direct and supervise small and large student teams learning new information in food service operations, including but not limited to responsiveness to student needs and providing consistent/fair evaluation.
– Ability to work autonomously to accomplish various duties supporting team, student, and program goals.
– Capacity to interact positively with and provide service to others at all levels within the program community.

– Active participation in related professional organizations.
– Earned credentials or certifications through nationally recognized associations, including educator credentials and instructor/proctor alcohol service and safety credentials.
