About the Department |
The Division of Academic and Student Affairs (DASA) integrates curricular and co-curricular components to improve the academic performance of our students and the quality of academic and non-academic experiences at NC State University. DASA promotes academic excellence, universal access, engagement and achievement for the student scholar. Led by Vice Chancellor and Dean Dr. Doneka Scott, DASA is committed to providing our students with the programs and services they need for progress toward scholastic objectives, intellectual development, and personal growth. DASA is home to academic affairs, student affairs, and University College. DASA departments and programs serve all NC State students and partner closely with colleges and other campus units to support student success and engagement. University College includes the Department of Health and Exercise Studies and the Department of Performing Arts & Technology, 12 minors and two certificate programs. In addition, University College includes undergraduate courses and curricula, academic enrichment, advising technology, university advising and the Exploratory Studies program. University College is one of the largest generators of undergraduate student credit hours at NC State. UC faculty and staff, often through collaboration with a broad range of campus partners, provide innovative experiential learning opportunities, centralized curricular and cross-curricular programs, academic support, and other resources that enhance the student learning experience. Timely degree completion and accomplishment of academic and career goals are fostered through interdisciplinary academic programs, academic planning and support, continuous faculty and staff development, and high impact educational practices. The mission of the Department of Health and Exercise Studies (HES) is to foster a supportive academic environment in which to educate and inspire students to build and sustain a healthy body and mind for lifelong productivity and wellbeing. HES offers a variety of both activity and lecture courses that fulfill GEP and minor curriculum. As the sole provider of a key general education component, the department is uniquely situated as the only department in the university through which all undergraduate students must pass. The department’s four academic minors include Coaching Education, Health, Outdoor Leadership, and Sports Science. More information about the department can be found at https://hes.dasa.ncsu.edu. |
