About the Department:
The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences trains doctors of veterinary medicine and graduate students interested in research-based careers focused on the discovery of new knowledge about animal and human health and disease and using those findings to enhance animal and human health and well-being. Students get in depth knowledge of the molecular mechanisms of disease, and experience in the development of new procedures which enable its prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Our faculty are recognized experts in the fields of cell biology and physiology, cancer biology, developmental biology, environmental science and toxicology, genomics, infectious diseases, neuroscience, pharmacology, radiology, and reproductive biology.
Our goals are to advance veterinary medical science through innovative basic and applied research, and by mentoring and inspiring students, providing world-class clinical and diagnostic services, and offering the public the latest knowledge through innovative extension and engagement activities. Our research faculty work in state-of-the-art research facilities including a transgenic mouse facility where graduate students can participate in research projects related to mouse and animal genomics.
A number of graduate programs are available to students interested in working with faculty in the Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences. In addition, faculty oversee following clinical sections: anesthesia, clinical nutrition, pharmacology, and the radiology residency.
Essential Job Duties:
The Lopez Soto Laboratory works at the intersection of genomics, neurophysiology and behavior to identify genes and regulatory networks in sensory neurons that contribute to pain signaling in normal and disease states.
The lab is seeking a creative, motivated, and independent Research Associate with primary efforts dedicated to two areas: 1) laboratory management, including maintaining mouse colony, inventory and ordering supplies, biosafety lab compliance and new personnel lab onboarding; and 2) independent research related with protein and RNA expression in different tissues.
The individual will perform various techniques to address scientific questions including behavioral tests, tissue collection, immunohistochemistry, RNA and DNA extraction. The individual will also be involved in the care of research mice. Research efforts will contribute toward publications and presentations.
The selected individual will also participate in the laboratory management, which includes maintaining an inventory of equipment, ordering supplies and research related materials, and day to day organization of the laboratory and research related activities.
The position will involve project management of several concurrent projects, analysis of data and assistance in determining the next steps of such projects. The individual will also be responsible for assisting with technical training of students and for following and the enforcement of safety procedures within the laboratory.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in biology (or related field) and three years of relevant experience in a research laboratory.
