About the Office of Research and Engagement
The Office of Research and Engagement has a staff of three professionals and is led by the Associate Dean for Research and Engagement.
In the engagement realm, the office oversees and implements the Dean’s priority programs related to engagement and extension and serves as liaison between department heads, the dean and associate deans, and university leadership regarding engagement and extension efforts. A key feature of the college’s extension efforts is the Humanities Extension Program, which places faculty in classrooms to share their experience statewide. Our faculty have a strong record of community engaged scholarship across the state, the nation, and the world.
Our research centers are also devoted to community engagement and service. Their work is consistent with NC State’s land-grant research-intensive mission, including community-engaged scholarship and collaboration with public agencies, community organizations, and other partners and stakeholders at the local, regional, national, and global scales. The work of the centers is also consistent with and supports the new college strategic plan which focuses on the important role the college plays in shaping the conversation for a better future (go.ncsu.edu/chassplan).
As one of the two organized research centers in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Center for Family and Community Engagement (CFACE) was established to promote safe, healthy, and productive families and communities. The center builds these partnerships by supporting community engagement, offering training and technical assistance, and providing evaluation and research. The center works with interdisciplinary partners on both research and practice at the local, national, and global levels to improve family and community health and well-being. CFACE enjoys strong college and university support, as well as a reputation for excellence among its community partners. CFACE has historically been active with contracts involving child welfare and has been funded by NCDHHS since its founding in 2008. Within the Center, faculty collaborators from multiple academic departments within CHASS interact with permanent staff members including two assistant directors (one for strategic initiatives and one for research), program managers, and a university program associate.
