About the Department:
The Science House (TSH) is the College of Sciences statewide K-12 STEM outreach unit. Established in 1991, TSH is a national model of university collaboration between university departments, businesses, and the K-12 community. TSH’s mission is to collaboratively maintain and develop K-12 teacher and student programs that inspire a passion for STEM learning, research, and discovery. The Science House achieves this through four strategic priorities: 1) Teacher Professional Development centered on equipping teachers to use engaging instructional practices, emerging technologies, guided inquiry, and project-based learning, 2) Student Programs focused on problem-solving, applied learning, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and competition, 3) Rural Satellite Offices that provide teacher professional development, student programs, and an Equipment and Technology Loan Program in rural, high-need areas, and 4) Broader Impact Support that helps NC State faculty in developing Impact Identities and carrying out broader impacts activities integrated with their research that advance open and participatory science.
The Center for Marine Sciences and Technology (CMAST) is a multi-college, highly interdisciplinary marine sciences research center located on Bogue Sound in Morehead City, North Carolina. CMAST is a nexus for interdisciplinary partnerships with federal, state, county, and non-governmental organizations. Programs at CMAST are dedicated to excellence in research, teaching, and extension in a manner that engages the public and stakeholders and creates and applies knowledge to solving the grand challenges of society. CMAST brings a co-creative, interdisciplinary approach to coastal solutions from local to global scales.
The Coastal Satellite Office is a new partnership between The Science House and CMAST. Located at CMAST’s Morehead City office, the Coastal Satellite Office will provide STEM professional development, student programming, and equipment loans to its partner schools and school systems in the eastern North Carolina region, particularly focusing on rural and underserved areas.

Essential Job Duties:
The Coastal Satellite Office is a new partnership between The Science House and CMAST. Located at CMAST’s Morehead City office, the Coastal Satellite Office will provide STEM professional development, student programming, and equipment loans to its partner schools and school systems in the eastern North Carolina region, particularly focusing on rural and underserved areas.
The Director of the Coastal Satellite Office shall provide vision and leadership for the direction and strategic planning for the office located at the Center for Marine Sciences and Technology (CMAST) in Morehead City, NC.
The Director of the Coastal Satellite Office shall promote and enhance the mission and goals of The Science House by developing, implementing, managing, and communicating the activities of the new Coastal Satellite Office.
Major activities include:
The successful candidate will be able to approach the work with boldness and innovation and will set about accomplishing goals through working across sectors and with an assets-based perspective. They will build on existing work and ensure that approaches are community-informed, evidence-driven, and address inequities.
The Director will travel extensively within the eastern region of North Carolina.Minimum Education and Experience:
Candidates must hold a master’s degree in STEM education or related field.
