Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Full-time, nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin January 2024.
The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching courses in animal and equine science, including basic undergraduate, upper-level undergraduate, and graduate level. Actual teaching assignments will be based on the specific strengths of the successful candidate and the curricular needs of the school, but will focus on food animal science and support equine science. The successful applicant will have academic advising, student recruitment, and course development responsibilities, and will be expected to serve as an advisor to student clubs and organizations. They will also need to work closely with equine and livestock farm managers, and to develop a working relationship with industries relevant to the programs. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in research and professional development activities. Involvement in service/leadership activities to the school, university, industry and state, regional, and national professional organizations will be included as a part of position responsibilities.
Minimum Education Requirements:
Ph.D. in Animal or Equine Science, or related field is required. ABDs with a documented plan of completion by appointment date will be considered.
Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:
Effective teaching, organization, and communication skills are required, as are the ability to be an effective team player and to interact positively with peers, students, constituent groups, and the public.
Preferred Education and/or Experience Qualifications:
Previous teaching experience at a college/university and/or work or farm management experience in food animal science, particularly beef cattle, is preferred. experience working with graduate students and graduate programs, and experience with competitive teams (judging teams, Quadrathalon, etc.) is also preferred.
