Reports to: Dean of Career & Technical Division and Faculty Chair – Career & Technical Division
Summary : Full-time faculty member providing instruction, advising and curriculum
development. Duties include teaching a full load of hospitality and culinary courses (15 credit hours per semester), maintaining office
hours, committee work, collaborating with academic support services, and other assignments supporting division goals. Must be willing to
teach online, flex, hybrid, or any other type of modality. Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities also include maintaining office hours,
participation in curriculum development, assessment, recruiting, and more.
General Duties and Responsibilities
:
1. Follow the rules and regulations outlined in the annual notice of faculty appointment letter,
current Faculty Handbook, college catalog, Mountwest Community & Technical College Institutional Board of Governors rules and college
Administrative Procedures, and the WV Council for Community & Technical College Education policies.
2. Develop a syllabus for each
course taught paying special attention to course and general education learning outcomes and how outcomes will be assessed. Provide a copy
of the course syllabus for each course to students on the first day of class.
3. Design classroom activities and assignments that
address course appropriate outcomes. Discuss with students’ appropriate assignments that merit inclusion in the general education
portfolio.
4. Assist the Program Coordinator or Department Chair in the selection of software and textbooks required for courses
while considering the cost to students in the selection of such software and textbooks.
5. Teach a fifteen credit-hour or equivalent
load with day, evening and/or off-campus courses as needed. It is anticipated that a faculty member will prepare an average of three hours
for every hour of instruction. Course overloads may be approved by the Dean.
6. Assist in the mentoring of part-time faculty within
the academic program.
7. Engage in assessment of student learning in all assigned courses. Assist the Program Coordinator or Chair in
the preparation of the Annual Assessment Plan and the end of year Annual Assessment Report and Improvement and Implementation Plan.
8. Meet classes at the time scheduled and hold classes for the allotted time.
9. Maintain a minimum of eight office hours per
week across four days, distributed to include convenient times for consultation with both day and evening students. Schedules must be
completed and posted on faculty office doors and filed with the division Administrative Assistant within the first week of classes.
10. Assist the Program Coordinator or Chair with preparation of the Program Review reports, annual Assessment Report, discipline-area
accreditation reports, requested information for regional accreditation self-study reports, and other reports and projects associated with
the program and/or division.
11. Collaborate with the Program Coordinator, Chair or Dean in the development of the Strategic Plan
activities and budget requests.
12. Assist the Program Coordinator or Chair in the maintenance of equipment and in the
recommendations for the purchase of equipment.
13. Prepare Planning Pages including a professional development plan and efforts to
support recruitment initiatives, student success/retention strategies, graduation goals, course and program assessment, and
maintenance/enhancement of program viability and effectiveness.
14. Assume a positive and active role as a representative of the
College by participating in and/or attending each of the following events when possible:
a. Student recruitment efforts at high
schools and college fairs as well as business, industry and agencies related to the program/major.
b. Internal and external
marketing
c. Promotional activities
d. Professional organizations
e. Professional development activities
f.
Research (as appropriate)
g. Public Service activities
h. College-wide meetings
i. General faculty meetings
j.
Advisory committee meetings
k. College sponsored special events.
l. Serve, as requested, as a member of a Search Committee to
fill available faculty and staff positions.
Minimum Qualifications :
Experience
may be used in lieu of education of a bachelor’s degree, however an associate degree in a relevant field is required. Teaching
experience preferred, preferably at the community college level. Finalists will be required to do microteaching as part of the interview
process. Experience in the food service industry required.
Licensure/Certification Required
: Valid driver’s license for travel. Food handler’s certification required.
Physical/Work
Demands : No major sources of discomfort, standard work environment. Job is physically comfortable;
individual has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc. May occasionally lift objects up to 25 pounds.
