Description
Mount St. Joseph University (the Mount) is accepting applications for a full-time visiting faculty position to join the Department of Exercise Science and Integrative Health in the School of Health Sciences beginning January, 2024.
This full-time one semester visiting position will be responsible for teaching a 12-credit hour load and engaging in departmental advising during the Spring 2024 semester. Undergraduate courses for the semester will include introductory exercise science, health assessment and exercise prescription with lab, exercise prescription for special populations and human nutrition.
Eligibility for renewal and a full-year term contract for 2024-2025 is pending budget approval.
The Mount is a private institution founded in 1920 by the Sisters of Charity emphasizing values, integrity and social responsibility. The Department of Exercise Science and Integrative Health offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Exercise Science with concentrations in Clinical Exercise Prescription, Sport Performance and Active Aging, Health Promotion, and a 3+2 Master of Athletic Training track. Students outside the department may minor in Exercise Science and Fitness. We are dedicated to providing holistic, individual attention to students as they develop personal and professional skills.

The specific responsibilities of all teaching faculty include:
1. Supports the Mission of the University, School of Health Sciences, and the Mission, Philosophy and Strategic Plan of the Department of Exercise Science and Integrative Health.
2. Participates in regular, special and standing committees and other activities of the Department.
3. Contributes to the development, evaluation, and revision of the curriculum.
4. Contributes to the development and revision of departmental and student policies in relation to administration, admission, retention, evaluation, progression, graduation, and licensure.
5. Assists in the development and evaluation of the Program’s Strategic Plan and the budget and in planning and decision making regarding major expenditures.
6. Acts in accord with the Program’s professional and ethical standards.
7. Participates in groups designed to involve community agencies in program planning and evaluation.
8. Accepts leadership responsibilities within the Program.
9. Participates in the recruitment of qualified faculty and students.
10. Supervises the activities of adjunct lab instructors, if utilized.
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
1. Selects, plans, organizes and implements learning experiences in assigned courses which assist students to meet course and program outcomes.
2. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the subject matter.
3. Demonstrates an ability to integrate related content areas.
4. Uses creativity in developing an interactive learning environment.
5. Evaluates students based on course outcomes, identifies strengths and areas needing improvement, and facilitates the development of strategies for improvement and mastery of subject area.
ACADEMIC ADVISING
1. Interprets University, School, and Program policies for students.
2. Facilitates clarification and/or validation of course requirements, Program, University and Accrediting policies when communicating with students.
3. Posts regularly scheduled times for student conferences and advising sessions.
4. Maintains professional boundaries and sets limits with students.
5. Makes appropriate referrals and assists students to seek professional counseling and remedial opportunities when necessary.
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
1. Demonstrates knowledge of current trends in healthcare, exercise science, and disciplinary education and credentialing.
2. Demonstrates creativity in learning strategies, assessment, and clinical practice.
3. Demonstrates commitment to professional growth.

5. Participates in scholarly and citizenship activities in the Program, School, and University, through professional organizations and/or the community.
