Job Summary:
Education Coordinator (part-time/temporary) to support The Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum (RCCAM) in the development of its educational programming and interpretative content. The Coordinator will assist in planning and facilitating education programs that emphasize RCCAM’s long-standing commitment to social justice, DEAI, and that serve its diverse audiences. The coordinator will help support RCCAM as it broadens its educational contributions to the University and regional communities, support curricular and co-curricular undergraduate student engagement at RCCAM, and increase participation by under-represented groups in its programs and activities. The coordinator will contribute to implementation and design of programs which center around inclusive exhibitions and diverse collections to impact and grow audiences of Miami University (students, faculty, staff), and members of the local community in and around Oxford, including adult, school, youth, and family audiences.
Duties/Physical Demands:
The Art Museum Education Coordinator will:
• Support implementation of pre-planned and future public education programs (in-person, virtual, on & off-site);
• Assist in the development of additional content for the Art Museum’s educational video series, including impactful digital content created during the pandemic with continued relevance in a post-pandemic era.
• Contribute to quantitative and qualitative research focusing on ensuring diversity, inclusivity, equity, and access.
• Engage with faculty and students at Miami University, volunteer docents, and community educators
• Participate in conferences and webinars (time and funding permitting)
• Work independently and as part of a team to design, create, and deliver Art Museum educational programs;
• Work assignments may require advanced knowledge, skills, or abilities. Some independent judgment or initiative;
• May involve supervisory responsibilities for an activity of limited scope;
• May require a significant amount of physical exertion, adverse hours, or working conditions;
• Areas of work include Art Museum & Sculpture Park, in addition to involvement with Museums Miami; and community spaces outside of Miami University.
• Attend special events outside of regular office hours when assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Art Education, or a closely related arts or humanities field. Minimum six months as an employee, intern, or volunteer in education or public programs at a museum, arts, education, or non-profit institution.
Desired Qualifications:
Consideration may be given to candidates with a MA or MFA degree (or in progress) or a closely related professional degree with specialization in a relevant field, including, but not limited to: Art Education, Art History, Museum Studies, Museum Education. Knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment; Knowledge of computers and office applications; Some knowledge of administrative procedures which may include budgeting, research, preparing reports and evaluations; Work well with others as part of a team, ranging from student assistants, staff, faculty and volunteer docents; Research skills; Ability to communicate effectively in written form; Skill in communicating effectively orally / in person as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
