The Metro Transit Police Department is one of the fastest growing law enforcement agencies in the state due the expansion of light rail and Rapid Transit Bus systems. We are a licensed police force committed to the safety of our customers and employees, serving eight counties and approximately 85 cities in the region. There is an authorized strength of 171 full-time officers, 80 part-time officers, 70 community service officers and 34 administrative staff dedicated to one thing: public safety on and near our transit system. How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:
The Business Systems Analyst 3 (BSA3), under the direction of the Manager, Police Business Systems, will utilize technical skills and critical thinking while constructing queries and scripts for the extraction of data in response to data requests and building dashboards for ongoing reporting. The BSA3 will use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio to extract data from the records management system and computer aided dispatch applications, as well as relational databases and utilize Microsoft Report Builder for creating reports. The BSA3 will also facilitate the reporting of Metro Transit Police Department statistical data on the public website. The BSA3 will have working knowledge of CJIS data requirements and policies, as well as the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.
This position will establish an six-month eligible list to fill additional vacancies.

A high school diploma/GED or technical certification AND eight (8) years of relevant experience in the areas of Information Technology, Analytics, critical thinking and technical skills in analyzing data, constructing queries in databases using SQL as well as project coordination and business analysis.
A post-secondary degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Analytics, or similar field, may substitute for experience in the areas of Information Technology, Analytics, critical thinking and technical skills in analyzing data, constructing queries in databases using SQL as well as project coordination and business analysis on a year-for-year basis:
* Associate degree and six (6) or more years of experience.
* Bachelor’s degree and four (4) or more years of experience.

If you are new to the Metropolitan Council, you must pass a drug test (safety sensitive positions only), and a background check which verifies education, employment, and criminal history. A driving record check and/or physical may be conducted if applicable to the job. If you have a criminal conviction, you do not automatically fail. The Metropolitan Council considers felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a case-by-case basis, based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.
If you are already an employee of the Metropolitan Council, you must pass a drug test (if moving from a non-safety sensitive position to a safety sensitive position) and criminal background check if the job you’re applying for is safety sensitive, is a supervisory or management job, is in the Finance, Information Services, Audit, or Human Resources departments, or has access to financial records, files/databases, cash, vouchers or transit fare cards.
