YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE
We are looking for a Payroll Analyst in 401 N Michigan Ave Ste 1400, Chicago, IL 60611 USA. Your mission will be to:
The Payroll Analyst will review and process each department’s biweekly compensation schedule and ensure each staff member is paid accurately. In this position, you will work closely with other financial personnel and human resources to account for wage garnishments, employment taxes and retirement accounts within each employee’s paycheck.
Main activities:
* Research, evaluate and ensure that payroll issues and discrepancies are resolved in a proper and timely manner; and maintain and update set up in the Payroll System.
* Leads the preparation and maintenance of records and reports related to payroll, time sheets, payroll related taxes,, payments and other assigned duties with the support of the Payroll Manager. Process bi-weekly US multi-state including California and Canada payroll (hourly and salaried payroll).
* Maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating and entering data.
* Train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned staff (as needed and if applicable).
* Assists Payroll Manager with conducting research, analyzing legislative changes pertaining to payroll and tax codes.
* Oversee and process all payroll related filing and process incoming mail.
* Maintain and audit garnishments.
* Participate in inter-company department collaboration projects in efforts to streamline daily processing activities and process improvement.
* Audits new hires in payroll and process California terminations.
* Helps the Payroll Manager with resolving payroll discrepancies.
* Answers payroll questions and requests from employees and other department managers.
* Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
* Coordinating with the Human Resources team to ensure correct employee data.
* Auditing online software timekeeping records to ensure compliance.
* Investigate and resolve unusual activity.
* Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws, best practices and Acts, and stays abreast of any changes.
* Prepares various payroll and management reports, workers compensation and reconciles quarterly payroll taxes.
* Process Internal payroll customer service tickets.
* Perform other duties and special projects as assigned, including but not limited to software implementations and acquisitions.
YOUR PROFILE
This is a hybrid role at our Chicago, IL office: 3 days in office, 2 days remote
* Associate’s degree with coursework in accounting, business or related fields OR a minimum of 5-7 years of processing multi-state payroll for organizations between 500 – 2,000 employees.
* Hands-on experience with a payroll software, preferably Ceridian.
* Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with advanced capabilities of utilizing formulas in Excel.
* Basic SQL skill (preferred but not required)
* Basic accounting skills (preferred but not required)
* Knowledge preferred:
Principles and practices involved in payroll administration.
Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
Tax withholding, voluntary deductions and employee benefits.
Preparation, maintenance, verification, auditing and processing of payroll records and reports.
Computer applications for payroll and auditing functions, general data processing terminology and capabilities.
Financial and statistical record-keeping techniques.
Interpersonal skills including tact, patience and courtesy.
Required skills:
* Detail Oriented, Organized, Ability to time manage, Data Entry, Strong Written and Verbal Communication
Work Environment: The position primarily works in an office environment. Physical dexterity is necessary to effectively manipulate a keyboard. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a sitting position. Periodically, the position may lift up to 50 lbs.
