Job Description

Scientific Communications and Information Sciences is seeking an Associate Director of Scientific Reference Data with excellent communications skills and a passion for healthcare and technology. -Reference data includes dictionaries, controlled terminologies, taxonomies, thesauri, and ontologies covering subject areas key to our company’s scientific information. –As part of a team of data stewards and data analysts, this person will build out reference services, content, and governance, as well as client relationships. -These activities ensure the integrity of the scientific reference data, its appropriate application, and reliable delivery across the company.

Primary activities include, but are not limited to:

• Create and maintain reference data used within the pharmaceutical industry
• Keep up to date on external data sources and data standards, such as the WHO Drug Dictionary, and IDMP (Identification of Medicinal Products)
• Interface with representatives of systems and processes that need to utilize reference data to understand their requirements and explain how the reference data can be used
• Serve as an ambassador for reference data use through outreach and stakeholder engagement –
• Contribute to building out data governance for reference data and its use
• Participate in the identification and development of new reference data sources and strategize in its management and distribution
• Serve as a bridge between the reference data and the technology needed to maintain and distribute it; participate in requirements definition and user acceptance testing
• Create and maintain documentation, metrics, operating procedures and training materials.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Degree in a scientific, medical, data science, or information science discipline plus pharma/biotech, or healthcare industry experience. Bachelor’s and 8+ years, Master’s and 6+ years, PhD and 3+ years

Required:

• Broad understanding of drug discovery, drug development and research processes, clinical data coding and experience working within a regulated environment
• Proficiency with querying languages (ex. SQL)
• Familiarity with descriptive metadata for small molecules, biologics, and vaccines
• Experience with master data management systems, content, documentation, and processes
• Experience with terminologies (dictionaries, thesauri, taxonomies, ontologies) or reference/master data standards (U.S. and/or international)
• Experience with outreach and stakeholder engagement, including presenting
• Understanding of governance models and their implementation
• Experience working with multiple stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment of business goals with regards the implementation and usage of reference data
• Strong literature search and information analysis skills, including experience with biomedical and/or chemical information resources (i.e., Medline)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a matrix environment
• Team player yet able to work independently with minimal direction
• Proficiency with Microsoft tools, especially fluency with Excel
• Attention to detail
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Strong time management and project management skills
• Capable of balancing and prioritizing multiple tasks
• Ability to work independently to drive tasks to completion and to act with appropriate accountability

Preferred:

• Familiarity with ontologies, and data standards relevant to the biomedical industry (e.g. GO, MedDRA, CDISC, MESH, UMLS, HL7, WHO-Drug and ATC classes, IDMP)
• Understanding of reference data structures and their use in developing reports and new reference data
• Experience and/or ability to learn to automate the manipulation of content through the use of scripting languages or automation tools
• Experience designing and developing taxonomies, reference data or controlled vocabularies
• Experience with FAIR principles and other standards

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence. -This Hybrid work model does not apply to, and daily in-person attendance is required for, field-based positions; facility-based, manufacturing-based, or research-based positions where the work to be performed is located at a Company site; positions covered by a collective-bargaining agreement (unless the agreement provides for hybrid work); or any other position for which the Company has determined the job requirements cannot be reasonably met working remotely. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.

Expected salary range:
$130,960.00 – $206,200.00
