This is a full-time position at a leading law firm headquartered in Brooklyn, NY. Base Salary up to $120k.
This position is fully in-office for the first 90 days, but switches to a hybrid position (2 days a week in the office, Tues/Thurs) afterwards, with in-office days on that schedule or ad hoc depending on the team’s needs.
We’re looking for someone with robust experience in legal billing, as well as someone with strong leadership and management capabilities and experience who’s comfortable working in the fast-paced and high-volume environment.
Must have at least one full year of experience managing 3+ direct reports.
The person in this role will report to the Managing Partner. They will directly supervise the work of all members of the Billing Department. They will work on preparing invoices, overseeing and maintaining accounts receivable and accounts payable, producing department reports and analysis, and other projects and tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities
· Directly supervise the work of every member of the Billing Department, maintaining robust knowledge of the status of all client accounts
· Drafts and distributes weekly/monthly reports of invoicing and billing metrics
· Advises staff on proper, legal parameters for collections practices; ensures that all billing actions comply with company, local, state, and federal guidelines
· Locates, or assists in location of, hard-to-reach clients
· Oversees the preparation of statements and bills
· Maintains and/or ensures maintenance of client records related to invoicing and bill payment
· If necessary, prepare invoices through the legal software system according to client guidelines
· Edit and enter costs, time, and narratives to prepare for monthly closing
· Oversee drafting and submission of appeals
· Review accounts payable invoices and status
· Collect on accounts receivable by client, with full view of accounts receivable across clients
· Monitor deadlines and address follow-up tasks
· Utilize features of legal management software to maintain client accounts and provide reports
· Close cases in the legal management system when final bill amounts are collected
· Serve as point of contact for billing related inquiries
· Provide all training for Billing Department staff as well as attorneys and paralegals when necessary
Requirements
Education
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Accounting or Finance. Equivalent training and experience may substitute for education.
Experience
This position requires previous supervisory experience in a billing department at a law firm. Requires experience leading, mentoring, and holding direct reports with varying skill sets accountable for their performance.

· Demonstrated experience leading a team of at least 3 people
· Financial Analysis (A/R, A/P, basic cash flow forecasting)
Problem Solving skills (including investigation and troubleshooting);
