South Mountain Community College (SMCC) reflects the diversity of the surrounding community, a rich mix of rural, urban, and suburban neighborhoods. Many of our students arrive from Phoenix, Laveen, Tempe, Guadalupe, and the surrounding area to attend classes at the main campus or our offsite facility in Guadalupe; we also offer evening courses in Laveen at Betty Fairfax High School.
Of the approximately 5,000 students enrolled at SMCC nearly 70 percent were first-generation college students and 48 percent intended to transfer to a university to further their education. And, with more than 80 percent of these students identifying as a minority, SMCC has been federally designated as a Minority Serving and Hispanic Serving Institution.
Our small, personalized classes are offered days, evenings, and online, led by an engaged and accomplished faculty. Career and academic counseling are also available. Job Summary
The Vice President of Administrative Services (VPAS) serves on the President’s Executive Team and provides dynamic and innovative leadership and administrative oversight to the college Financial Services, Facilities, Human Resources, Information Technology, and College Police departments. The VPAS plans, directs, and evaluates college facilities, administrative functions, business practices, and budgetary processes to meet student, community, and district needs in a shared governance model. The ideal candidate has a passion for student success, enjoys working collaboratively and creatively with internal and external stakeholders, has an authentic and appreciative leadership style, and brings prior community college administrative leadership experience to our campus.
This position reports directly to the President and works collaboratively as a member of the college executive leadership team to advance the college’s strategic goals and objectives. The VPAS also acts as an advisor to the College President in matters pertaining to administrative services, financial matters, human resources, facilities, and auxiliary operations in the Maricopa County Community College District.

This is a short-term interim assignment with a projected end date of 06-30-2024 with renewal based on available funds and the needs of MCCCD.
Essential Functions
40% – Oversees administrative initiatives in support of students and employees for successful outcomes; Collaborates on strategic and operational planning; works to attain and exceed Governing Board outcomes related to improving operational efficiency and financial structures to support student learning
20% – Leads planning, budgeting and resource allocation for Administrative Services in collaboration with faculty, staff, administrators, and appropriate College councils and committees
20% – Oversees the recruitment, supervision and evaluation of the staff within administrative services in a manner that promotes excellence, creativity, and service to the college community
10% – Builds and maintains relationships with the District and community partners; serves as a member of college and district councils and committees; collaborates with college divisions and departments to meet their administrative services needs
10% – Maintains a strong commitment to operational assessment practices, data use to inform decision making, budgetary planning, and operational planning; performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications for Student Affairs or non-academic pathway: Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or field related to area of assignment and four years of progressively responsible management and/or leadership experience in field of assignment that includes two years of supervisory experience. Examples of student affairs academic support management/leadership experience includes: program management, project management, budget development and management related to programs or projects, staff supervision, policy development, administration, evaluation and compliance. Equivalency allowed for Non Academic area.

Minimum Qualifications for Academic pathway: Master’s Degree in a teaching field related to area(s) of assignment and four years of experience in an academic leadership and/or supervisory role in higher education and three years of teaching that includes curriculum/coursework development. Examples of academic leadership/supervisory experience includes: division/department chair, project management, policy development, administration, evaluation and compliance, committee leadership, program director, and shared governance. No equivalency.
Desired Qualifications
A. Earned Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution
B. Four (4) or more years of senior leadership in a large, complex organization
C. Four (4) or more years of experience managing complex budgets at a community-serving organization (e.g. non-profit organization, community college).
D. Four (4) or more years of experience managing capital projects, or operations pertaining to Facilities, or Human Resources, or Information Technology, or Law Enforcement in a community-serving organization.
