SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Industrial Hygiene Specialist is responsible for developing programs and management systems incorporating industrial hygiene core requirements which include anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling hazards to ensure a safe and quality working environment. This position is responsible for managing and coordinating the industrial hygiene, personal protective equipment, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, OSHA specific chemical standards, lead, asbestos, and potent compound programs to ensure compliance with safety standard operating procedures (SOPs), corporate policies, and OSHA regulations.
The candidate must be an independent worker with a strong sense of customer service. This candidate may also serve as an SME for Corporate or other MNK locations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develop programs, procedures for Industrial Hygiene, outlined below:
Controlling workplace stressors to improve workplace exposure and employee health and safety.
Assessing initial exposure risk
Measuring worker exposures through appropriate methods or instrumentation to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standards.
Communicating worker exposure results and standards to site management and employees
Documenting and retaining employee exposure records per OSHA and Mallinckrodt record retention requirements.
Manage all aspects to monitor and take effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standards.
Developing IH policies, procedures, self-audits, supporting training materials for the St. Louis Plant operations
Developing/revising/reviewing occupational exposure guidelines for API’s
Lead efforts as a team member in continually improving the site’s Safety Culture.
Developing and conducting safety training courses including PPE, potent compound, HAZCOM, OSHA specific chemical standards, vapor monitoring instruments, and other applicable safety training.
Monitor contractor EHS compliance through Contractor Management system. Provide input regarding such on projects and overrides where necessary.
Provide EHS support for all Management of Change activities in supported value streams.
Utilize the EHS management system software, to ensure all incidents, near misses, and EHS related activities are captured, processed, and evaluated according to site SOPs.
Assist in investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions for incidents as well as participate and drive continuous improvement within the EHS Department.
Respond to plant emergencies as needed. Provide either field support or command center subject matter expertise during response to all emergencies.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
Education: Bachelor’s degree in occupational, Safety and Health Engineering or
related safety/technical field.
Experience: Minimum 1-3 years of experience as a Safety Professional. Experience in a pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing environment working with hazardous materials preferred.
Skills/Qualifications:
Ability to prepare and communicate technical data for use by a variety of different audiences, such as the Site Leadership, supervisors, senior engineers/scientists, technical expert, and operators.
Must be able to walk, climb, and wear personal protective equipment to include full body suit and respiratory equipment.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and technical writing skills.
Ability to handle multiple priorities.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft office applications required.
Self-directed; ability to be self-starter with tasks and responsibilities.
Must be able to work as a team member in a fast-paced environment.
Other Skills:
Knowledge of cGMP, PSM and environmental regulations.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
WORKING CONDITIONS: This position works both in an Office and Plant setting, both indoor and outdoor. Outdoor conditions will include the temperature and weather extremes found in the St. Louis Region. Overtime may be required as need, and incumbent may be required to report to work early or stay after normal working hours and may require weekend or holiday work. This position will rotate on-call duties, which include weekend/holiday coverage of plant operations. This position responds to plant emergencies and participate in mitigation activities on shift or off shift and may require use of personal protective equipment to include respirator. Candidates must successfully pass the security background check, educational, employment, and post-offer physical including drug test. Extensive training will be required to meet all regulatory, safety and security requirements.
