Duties and Responsibilities:
Loyola University Chicago School of Law invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible, faculty position to serve as the Director of the Institute for the Rule of Law and the Institute’s Program in Rule of Law for Development (PROLAW). Candidates will be considered for renewable, long-term appointment at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor of Law (non-tenure track) and will also hold an administrative appointment as Director.
The Director will oversee all programs at the Rule of Law Institute, including the LLM and MJ programs in Rule of Law for Development (PROLAW).The PROLAW mission embraces rule of law as the foundation stone for countries to pursue the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Most PROLAW students are attorneys and legal professionals from developing countries. The Director will shoulder duties in both Chicago, IL and Rome, Italy and will spend substantial time in both cities. Key duties will be strategic development of PROLAW and the Rule of Law Institute’s programs and initiatives, recruiting and enrollment management, nurturing existing and building new interdisciplinary and international partnerships, budget development and management, and hiring and supervision of program staff. The Director will work closely with the Dean, the PROLAW Advisory Board, the university’s advancement team and other senior leaders. The person in the position will teach in the PROLAW curriculum and may also teach courses of strategic value to the law school and its interdisciplinary programs.
Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a J.D. degree, or an equivalent advanced law degree, from a U.S. or foreign law school, with experience with the IDLO or other international organizations, must have leadership and administrative experience related to international programs, program development, fundraising and grant application supervision. Loyola Law seeks applicants with a record of substantial administrative and management experience, proven leadership and communication skills, a commitment to the advancement of diversity and inclusion in international programs, and an innovative vision for the future of international programs, partnerships, and education. Preferred qualifications include experience working with international students, overseeing international programs, and research and/or practice experience related to international legal issues.
