Job Title: Global Director, Environmental Health & Safety

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The corporate EHS organization exists to support and coordinate the company’s efforts to manage risk, continuously improve performance, and achieve excellence in the area of Environmental Health and Safety. The role of the Global Director of Environmental Health and Safety drives sustainable safety programs to continuously improve and evolve the company’s safety culture positively, to reduce and eliminate accidents and injuries across the entities. The primary purpose of the role is to lead Loram’s efforts to eliminate accidents and injuries and to minimize risk globally by developing and implementing best-in-class programs, practices, solutions, and tools designed to foster a safety culture of engagement, commitment, and visible leadership.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Strategic and Functional

• Lead the implementation of global EHS strategic plans, management systems, policies, processes, and tactics for all Loram and subsidiaries.
• Partner with site leadership, safety representatives, and committees to ensure that all aspects of the company’s EHS results and programs are working in concert. Lead and coach management to own it.
• Sets clear and measurable goals for safety performance; maintains detailed safety performance data, analyzes trends, reports on statistics.
• Establish a sustaining Emergency Response program that is responsive, effective, and provides reliable coverage.
• Direct company environmental sustainability efforts in a manner that promotes continuous improvement in the reduction of the company’s environmental footprint.
• Anticipates, recognizes, and responds to changing internal and external trends, market conditions, and legislation and develops strategies that are progressive, compliant, and sustainable.
• Develop and oversee all EHS regulatory reports, permits, and record-keeping requirements; and serve as the subject matter expert on compliance with OSHA, EPA, and FRA regulations.
• Provide EHS and Facilities assurance by reviewing operating contract proposals and interface with Company insurance representatives to assist with identifying and improving management programs.

Leadership and Talent Development

• Direct and manage the global Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) organization, and partner with business unit leaders to deliver an industry-leading level of EHS performance.
• Strategically drive the EHS function across the globe and provide oversight of the international safety representatives through a dotted-line reporting structure. Facilitates global team cohesion and accountability through effective communication and best practice sharing with peers and management.
• Recruit, select, and develop staff with the appropriate mixture of experience, capabilities, and skills to consistently meet company goals and departmental initiatives.

Financial Management

• Develop, execute, and manage the EHS department budget and expenditures for the fiscal year with a team of approximately 8 specialists, and a facilities team of 5 employees.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of increasing safety and environmental responsibility with a mobile/industrial environment, including managing cross-functional teams, and operating at a senior level to drive results.

Licenses/Certifications: Maintain Railroad Certifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong leadership and people management skills with experience in a growth-oriented, global business.
• A safety expert, with knowledge in Human performance, Cultural transformation, KPIs and enterprise systems.
• Excels in problem-solving capabilities, safety leadership, employee engagement, communications, training, and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Clear pin-pointed communicator. Strong ability to explain thoughts, positions, ideas, and projects efficiently with hourly workers, and the Executive Team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master’s degree in EHS or Business Administration

Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
