Job Summary
Conceptualizes, coordinates and creates visual solutions for the Department of Museums, Archives & Rare Books. Oversees design concepts for exhibitions, interactives, websites and/or related collateral materials and manage and coordinate complex exhibition projects and programs. Works closely and collaboratively with museum staff and third parties such as artists, lenders, co-organizers, and vendors.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Conceptualize, coordinate, and create graphic design solutions for exhibitions, signage, collateral material in consultation with MARB units and/or develop schematics and floor plans for exhibitions that might include the creation of additional walls/spaces, color, lighting, and innovative integration of interpretive elements, including interactives and technology.2. Manage and coordinate, in partnership with exhibit teams, complex exhibition and related design projects and programs from conceptualization to implementation, including developing schedules for design, production, and installation.3. Design and/or build exhibit elements, including cases, mounts, and interactives.4. Coordinate and train students, staff, and volunteers engaged in artifact handling, exhibit installation, and exhibit support.5. Contribute to design workshops, in partnership with project managers, with internal and external constituents.6. Working with exhibit teams and strategic communications to develop branding solutions7. Contribute to grant and award applications related to exhibit design and document each installation and special exhibition
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
Required Experience
Four (4) years of experience as an Exhibit Designer or closely related profession
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
BA / BFA or MA / MFA in Architecture / Industrial Design / Studio Arts
Preferred Experience
Experience with exhibit design technology and current standards in exhibition design
Proposed Salary
The budgeted salary range is $45,900 to $64,500 . Offers are based on relevant experience.
