Pay Range: $15.00 – $18.75 and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Pay Grade: 50.50

Position Summary: CLEAR Aides assist the program manager and instructors in providing educational programming and life skills training to adults with physical, intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

Required Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. Basic computer knowledge and ability to operate standard office equipment required. Six months experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Ability to work with students with varying degrees of disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications: One year of college coursework in social service field.
Knowledge of the JCCC campus.

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

• ASSIST STUDENTS ON CAMPUS – Provide the support necessary for students in the CLEAR program to navigate the campus as independently as possible. This includes meeting students upon arrival on Saturdays, escorting them to classes, helping in the food court at lunch, and waiting with them at the end of the day for their transportation home. Performance is acceptable when: a. Students are greeted cheerfully upon arrival and throughout the day. b. Appropriate mobility assistance is extended when needed and requested. c. Students are treated respectfully in all interactions. d. The program manager is alerted if a student is missing, ill, agitated or if other intervention is required. e. Student confidentiality is maintained.
• ASSIST INSTRUCTORS IN THE CLASSROOM – In the classroom, the aide will observe students for any behavioral or health concerns and alert instructor immediately, will assist the instructor in classroom activities as directed by the instructor, will retrieve and return supplies from the supply room and will assist in returning the classroom to original order at the completion of each class. Performance is acceptable when: a. Each instructor’s guidelines for assisting students in classroom are clarified and followed. b. Instructors requests for assistance with supplies or classroom materials are anticipated or acted upon promptly. c. Each classroom is left clean at the end of each class and all materials and supplies are put away in their proper place in the storage room. d. Instructors are alerted quickly and discreetly when a student is experiencing symptoms of a health related issue such as seizures or exhibiting disruptive behaviors in class. e. Changes in work assignments are accepted with flexibility.
• MODEL APPROPRIATE SOCIAL INTERACTIONS FOR STUDENTS – Act as a role model for students in classroom and social situations and assist students in becoming comfortable with program routine and campus life. Performance is acceptable when: a. Social interactions with peers and coworkers are polite and appropriate. b. Clothing and personal appearance are appropriate for the academic setting. c. Appropriate boundaries are established between students and staff. d. Students are treated as adult learners.
