The Laboratory (Lab) and Building Coordinator (Coordinator) position has primary responsibility in creating a safe and effective learning experiences for Jackson College students who are completing the laboratory portion of the natural science course(s) and for maintaining a safe, effective, and welcoming environment for teaching and learning in McDivitt Hall
Specific responsibility for preparation of labs, maintaining lab materials, hiring, and mentoring any student workers/interns at any of the Jackson College locations where science courses with labs are held, including any Corrections Education Program locations. The coordinator will support the organization of collections and supplies for use by multiple users. The coordinator will work with the Department Chair, the faculty member responsible for scheduling and other parties as appropriate to assure that use of laboratory spaces and classrooms are properly coordinated.Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.· Recruit, hire, train, schedule and oversee student workers, student lab assistants and interns within McDivitt Hall areas, including all necessary safety training oversight and documentation.· In cooperation with the Dean, department chair, lead faculty and Business Office, use the existing budgets for ordering and securing lab equipment and lab materials for each sub-discipline within the Natural Sciences and for any materials needed for the operation of the Hall within the policies, guidelines, and procedures of the JetStore and Business Office.· Organization, cataloging, and maintenance of lab materials, stocks and lab collections.· Preparation of lab materials, equipment and spaces as directed by lead/teaching faculty.· Serve as Chemical Safety Officer in support of the Chemical Hygiene Officer. Implement and regularly update the Chemical Hygiene Plan.· Support Facilities, Security, and other appropriate parties in development, adoption, and implementation of the Hazard Communication Plan.· Offer chemical safety training to all applicable employees according to regulatory requirements and supply necessary information to faculty and staff responsible for compliance.· Assist faculty in development of new lab materials and activities to support student learning for distance learning as well as in face-to-face courses.· Work in conjunction with the Department Chair, Science Faculty and JC Scheduling Office to develop a comprehensive annual science lab schedule that accommodates multiple users and needs and supports multiple modes of instruction delivery.· Responsible for understanding, supporting and actively demonstrating the College’s beliefs, values, mission, and vision and being in agreement to be evaluated by same.· Work with JC Security and Facilities to ensure lab spaces meet safety standards.
CONTACTS AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTSInternal: Frequent contact with students, faculty, and staff at all levels in various campus departments in a coordination capacity.External: Make contact, as needed, with JPEC personnel, and vendors for equipment repairs.

Education and/or ExperienceMinimum Qualifications· Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in natural science or a directly related field.· Experience working in laboratory preparation.· Ability to travel to each campus as needed.· Obtain and retain a Law Enforcement Information Network clearance to enter state and federal correctional facilities.· Valid driver’s licensePreferred· Master’s degree in natural science· Experience with supervision· Organizational skills and experience in managing budgets and schedules.
Language Skills (required)Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.Math Skills (required)Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Reasoning Ability (required)Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
