Selects, recruits, instructs and monitors student-athletes for men and women’s eSports.Responsible for submitting preliminary budget, schedule, travel and equipment needs for men and women’s eSports. Follows all rules and guidelines of the College and in accordance with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) and the National Association of Collegiate eSports (NACE). In addition, following guidelines set forth by Jackson College Athletic Director. Essential Functions
Position Responsibilities:The eSports program is expected to recruit student-athletes that can be successful academically, socially and athletically at Jackson College, meeting a minimum roster size of 10-12 unique student-athletes each year; instruct and prepare the student-athletes for NACE competition; schedule and coach intercollegiate matches and tournaments.
Essential Duties:Recruits prospective student-athletes in accordance with JC’s strategic enrollment management targetsEnsures ongoing eligibility of student-athletes in the eSports program and monitors their academic programsCoordinate practices, schedule, and competitionsOversees scholarships for the eSports program, staying within requirements of Jackson CollegeDevelops goals for eSports program, including; athletic, academic, fund development and community serviceSupervision of student-athletes (academic, practice and competition)Management of eSports team arena, including maintenance of equipmentOversite of team inventory, including; uniforms, arena equipment, etc.Abide by all standards, rules and regulations of the Jackson College and NACEFollow administrative policies of the College and the Athletic DepartmentTravel regulations, budget, credit card usage, social media, recruiting, etc.Foster a positive image for the College and the Athletic DepartmentPromote and track student academic performance and community service. Assure team media information is accurate, current and complete (rosters, webpages, brochures, etc.)Participate in all athletic department fund developmentResponsible for understanding, supporting and actively demonstrating the College’s beliefs, values, mission and vision and being in agreement to be evaluated by same.Other duties as assigned by supervisor SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position supervises the eSports arena with the possibility of an assistant coach and student employees including training, hiring, etc. CONTACTS AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTSInternal: Frequent contact with faculty, staff, and administrators within Student Services, Health and Physical Fitness and other departments in an information-sharing capacity. External:Regular contact with JC students, prospective students, communitymembers, the media, high school coaches, area Athletic Directors, collegecoaches, officials and NACE, NJCAA & MCCAA.

Education and/or ExperienceAssociate Degree and/or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution preferred but is not required. Experience serving as a head and/or assistant coach in a college, high school or club setting required. College coaching experience preferred. Must be CPR/First Aid Certified, or able to obtain certification within 30-days of employment. Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s license with no restrictions. Computer SkillsKnowledge of multiplayer online video game application and streaming trends. Intermediate troubleshooting skills of network/hardware/software to work with the IT department in support of our eSports program. Competitive level experience with multiplayer online video games and experience with the required systems needed to support those games.Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral formats including the ability to speak before large audiences.Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract and apply concepts of basic statistics. Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Coaches are not employed directly by Jackson College with the exception of those receiving a pension from the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System.
