Ithaca College’s Department of Exercise Science and Athletic Training invites applications for a full-time tenure eligible assistant professor position from candidates with a specialty in Sport and Exercise Psychology/Mental Performance beginning August 16, 2024. The successful candidate would join a growing department, that is committed to delivering holistic, integrative, and collaborative educational experiences that prepare students as scientist-practitioners across the fields of sport and exercise psychology, exercise science, strength & conditioning and athletic training. We are seeking a colleague with a demonstrated commitment to inclusive pedagogy, with an interest in contributing to an evolving curriculum and a graduate program that will be seeking AASP graduate program accreditation. The position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in sport and exercise psychology/mental performance, including but not limited to: introduction to sport and exercise psychology, social psychology of sport, theoretical perspectives of mental performance and application of mental performance. Special consideration will be given to candidates who can a teach a course in diversity in sport and exercise at the graduate level. The position also involves mentoring thesis and research projects, and service responsibilities. Candidates should demonstrate potential for an active research agenda. QUALIFICATIONS: Doctoral degree in Sport Psychology/Mental Performance, Counseling/Clinical psychology, Kinesiology, or related field preferred at the time of appointment. However, ABD candidates who have made significant progress towards completion of the degree are also strongly encouraged to apply. Evidence of classroom teaching experience, scholarly promise, mentoring or applied/clinical experiences preferred. CMPC or ability to complete credential within first year of hiring is preferred.
The Department of Exercise Science and Athletic Training at Ithaca College consists of 13 full-time faculty, housed in the Center for Health Sciences. Programs within the department enjoy state-of-the-art facilities, including 3 athletic training clinics, a wellness center, and dedicated spaces for teaching and research in sport psychology, athletic training, human anatomy, neuromuscular control, exercise physiology, and biomechanics. An undergraduate degree (B.S.) in Exercise Science with concentrations in Sports Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Strength & Conditioning is offered. Graduate (M.S.) degrees are offered in Athletic Training (Professional Program) and Exercise and Sport Sciences (with concentration areas in Mental Performance and Human Performance).
