This recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) vacancy and will establish an eligibility list which may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur during the active status of the eligibility list.
Employees in this class report to the Groundwater Recharge Supervisor.
Recycled Water/Groundwater Recharge Maintenance Technician is distinguished from Recycled Water/Groundwater Recharge O&M Specialist in that an incumbent in the latter class assists in planning, developing and implementing a sound operations and maintenance program for the groundwater recharge program and oversees the water sampling program.
Performs a variety of duties associated with the installation, maintenance and repair of recycled water distribution and groundwater recharge facilities, equipment, appurtenances, machinery and components including pipelines, pump stations, pressure-reducing valves, flow control valves and other recycled water equipment.
Performs minor groundskeeping and housekeeping such as minor weed abatement and debris removal at recycled water distribution and groundwater recharge facilities.
Responds to emergency and non-emergency storm events and/or system repair needs; establishes a safe work zone/area upon arrival at work site; sets up traffic control and barricade equipment to meet requirements of the job and applicable safety procedures and regulations; performs or assists in the repair of mains, lines and pipes.
May work in lines, vaults and other confined spaces, utilizing proper safety techniques and equipment in accordance with Cal-OSHA, Agency and departmental safety policies and procedures.
Operates boom trucks, forklifts, compressors, cranes, jackhammers, pneumatic, hydraulic and electric tools, and related tools and equipment.
Collects groundwater recharge samples for process and compliance monitoring; performs basic field measurements of water samples using hand-held test equipment and records field data; coordinates sampling events with laboratory and stakeholders.
Performs stormwater capture support; reads gauges; opens and closes manual valves; collects filed and telemetered data; performs visual inspections; cleans trash racks; reports irregular findings to supervisor.
Plans and lays out jobs from drawings, sketches or verbal instructions; maintains records in the form of drawings, plans and specifications for recycled water systems, equipment and machinery.
Coordinates activities with other departments.
Requisitions necessary tools, equipment and supplies.
Researches new operational or maintenance techniques and equipment and recommends their application.
Completes reporting forms; opens and closes work orders; attends meetings; participates in Agency safety training.
LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
A valid California Class C driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency’s vehicle insurance program.
Annual certification for CPR, First Aid, Confined Space and use of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus per OSHA requirements are required at time of appointment and during the course of employment.
California State Water Resources Control Board Grade II Distribution Operator (D2) certification is required within one year of hire or promotion.
Practices, methods, protocols, techniques, tools and equipment used in operations of various sampling pumps, sampling equipment, purge cells, and handheld water analyzers common to groundwater and surface sampling.
Operations of the Agency’s recycled water and groundwater recharge systems facilities such as pumps, valves, meters, level sensors, programmable logic controls, display terminal, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) programs.
Use and operation of oxyacetylene, electric arc MIG and TIG welding equipment and materials.
Tests, tools and practices used in performing all preventive and predictive maintenance on equipment and systems used in a recycled water and groundwater recharge systems.
Operation of light, medium and heavy-duty motorized power equipment.
Traffic control practices.
Pipe materials, fittings and pipefitting tools and methods.
Agency policies, procedures and practices regarding area of assignment.
Local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding wastewater/water treatment, including the Safe Drinking Water Act and relevant Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
Safety policies, procedures and safe work practices applicable to assignment including OSHA regulations and confined-space entry.
ABILITY TO:
Diagnose and perform minor repairs on mechanical equipment, systems and machinery.
Use precision and diagnostic instruments to measure required tolerances of mechanical parts.
Operate forklifts, hydraulic lifts, power equipment, small crane, and tools used in the maintenance and repair of recycled water and groundwater recharge systems facilities and equipment.
Set priorities and effectively adjust priorities due to unforeseen changes and exercise independent judgment within areas of responsibility.
Identify and implement effective courses of action to complete assigned work.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Read and interpret plans, maps, layouts and manuals.
Exercise judgment and initiative within established guidelines.
Perform mathematical calculations applicable to facility and equipment maintenance and repair.
Be medically authorized to be fitted for and wear a respirator.
Operate a computer and standard business software.
Coordinate work assignments with other sections or departments.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all those encountered in the course of work.
