Coordinator of Technical Support ServicesHV-NTP-83023 Qualifications for Employment Education (Minimum Requirements): Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific discipline involving extensive laboratory work and three years of professional experience in a laboratory or laboratory-related function with evidence of supervisory experience, or, Associates Degree and five years of such experience with evidence of supervisory experience. Relevant Master’s Degree and more than the minimum experience described above is preferred. Employment Experience Preferred: Directly relevant professional experience may be substituted for education on a one-for-one basis. Pertinent Other: Working knowledge of prevailing state and federal standards relating to lab safety and chemical hygiene is required. Nature and Scope of Duties: The Coordinator of Technical Support Services reports to the Department Chair of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, supervises both classified and non-teaching professional laboratory staff, and oversees the operation of laboratory support for this department and performs the following duties: Manages procurement and deployment of lab equipment and materials necessary to the conduct of academic coursework in the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Department. a. Consults with Department Chairs and faculty members to ascertain adequacy of current equipment and materials as well as to plan for new curricular needs; maintains inventory of equipment and materials for this academic department. b. Assures that equipment is in working order and arranges for repairs as needed. c. Responds to problem situations or proposals from academic staff with technical information/solutions. d. Continuously monitors activities and materials in the laboratories for compliance with prevailing safety standards. e. Coordinates lab scheduling and preparation on the Main Campus and North Campus expansion site. 1. Manages Banner and Thor Store entries to ensure that lab materials and other departmental purchases are ordered in an efficient manner; manages departmental petty cash supply for lab needs and assures integrity of cash-handling and inventory process. 2. Supervises staff in lab preparation and material delivery to lab rooms. Performs lab preparation and material delivery to lab rooms, if/when needed. 3. Assures lab safety standards are met by maintaining current knowledge or relevant law and regulation, inspection and repair of lab premises and equipment, and training of lab employees, either personally or through acquisition of certified trainers. 4. Maintains and supervises storage and disposal of hazardous materials in accord with prevailing legal and policy standards; tests and maintains associated emergency systems (i.e., eyewash stations, chemical spill kit stations, etc.) 5. Maintains working relationship with Physical Plant staff to ensure repairs/modifications are completed in support of academic needs. 6. Supervises the purchase order and inventory processes necessary to maintenance of lab equipment and supplies in accord with academic needs. 7. Coordinates with the College Safety Officer and Environmental Health and Safety staff in the conduct of inspections, records maintenance, problem resolution as needed and as approved by the Department Chair of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. 8. Recommends and provides Personal Protective Equipment for faculty and staff of the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Department. 9. Maintains repository of all required Material Safety Data Sheets and Vendor Catalogues and materials relevant to the curricula of the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Department. 10. Serves as a lead technical resource for College Safety Committee and for administrative review of College safety issues and solutions. 11. Performs related duties as assigned by the Department Chair of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. This is a full-time 37.5 hour work week position with a salary of $57,000.00.
