Howard University
Chair, Department of History Search
Howard University (HU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of History. When there is an opening for Department Chair, it is our standard practice to open the search to external candidates, as well internal candidates, to ensure the largest pool of top candidates.
The Department of History seeks a dynamic and energetic leader with the ability to effectively engage faculty, staff, students, and external constituencies in a collegial and collaborative manner. The Chair will have a strong record of excellence in academic leadership, faculty development, and financial management. This is an outstanding opportunity for a visionary leader at an exciting time in the Department.
The Chair represents the Department as part of the college’s leadership team and is responsible for ensuring the academic and curricular integrity of the department at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Chair supervises, evaluates, and manages the Department’s faculty and staff and serves as a liaison and advocate for the department’s faculty and students. The Chair will be expected to lead the Department by modeling a strong and ongoing commitment to scholarship, teaching, and grantsmanship.
