Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for a Director of Housing and Residence Life.

About the Role

As part of the Student Success, Well-Being, and Belonging (SSWBB) division, the Director of Housing and Residence Life is responsible for fostering a living and learning environment within university student residential buildings that contributes to holistic student development. Additionally, the director promotes community development through residential programming and community standards consistent with the mission, operations, and policies of the university. The director is also the Student Conduct Coordinator and supports the student-led conduct system as its primary advisor and meets regularly with student board chairs to coordinate the conduct process.

This position reports to the Dean of Students and supervises one associate director and one assistant director of housing and residence life, in addition to one area coordinator. The director works closely with their colleagues in SSWBB, as well as with Facilities Management, Enrollment Management, and other offices to ensure students, including student residence life leaders, develop a strong sense of belonging and are actively engaged in campus life.

The director is required to live on campus and may be called upon at any time to assist in responding to student emergencies.

Position Qualifications

Successful applicants must have the following qualifications and experience:

• Master’s degree in student personnel administration or a related field.
• Minimum of four years of professional experience in residence life, including experience in student residence staff supervision, leadership, and development.
• A commitment to implementing and developing programs and systems that promote holistic student development.
• A commitment to implementing educative programming which fosters student belonging and well-being.
• Demonstrated success working with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Experience with student conduct processes.
• Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Experience with student information in institutional database systems.
• Excellent skills in the following areas: communication, interpersonal, customer service, counseling, conflict resolution, decision-making, problem-solving, presentation, training, organizational, multitasking, detail, accuracy, and report writing.
• Proven abilities to meet deadlines, make sound judgments, manage confidential and sensitive matters, and work effectively with multiple constituencies.
• Must be able to work in student residential buildings that are not handicap-accessible.
• Must be willing and able to live in university housing.
• Valid United States driver’s license with minimal violations.
• Must have access to a personal automobile 24/7.
• Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends as scheduled and needed.
• Must be willing and able to respond to student emergencies as needed.

Preferred candidates will have experience with residential, liberal arts, historically women’s-serving higher education institutions.
