Description:
Reporting to
the Associate Director of Instructional Technology, Instructional Technologists collaborate as members of the Digital Scholarship and
Faculty Innovation team, supporting Hofstra University Faculty who use technology in their teaching, scholarship, and research. The
Instructional Technologist may be assigned to collaborate with any member of the academic community to work on programs or research at the
undergraduate or graduate levels.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Performs system administration and
content management duties with the University’s LMS (currently Blackboard Learn) including course enrollments, updates, testing,
third-party integrations, and liaising directly with LMS vendor.• Supports faculty in the use of the University’s LMS, digital
education tools and classroom technologies for teaching, scholarship, and research. This includes instructing faculty, students, and others
in the use of specific technologies as needed.• Develops and maintains a strong working knowledge of the technological needs and
priorities of the broad array of academic disciplines at Hofstra.• Provides, upon request, advice and recommendations on the use and
integration of hardware and/or software to support teaching, scholarship, and research.• Collaborates in the planning, technical
implementation, and management of educational and research projects with faculty, ITS staff, and departments such as the Library, Student
Access Services, as well as instructional support staff across the University.• Develops educational and research technology training
materials, leads group workshops, and offers one-on-one consulting with faculty.• Maintains a strong theoretical and working knowledge
of emerging technologies, current trends and practices in education, and research across the higher education landscape.• Responds
rapidly to faculty requests for collaboration and support with an affirming, positive, and “can-do” approach.• Performs
other related duties as assigned.
This position may require some evening work in alignment with the schedule and availability of
faculty and at the direction of the department.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
with a concentration or major in Education, Technology, or other related discipline.• Strong technical acumen.• Rigorous and
effective documentation and organizational skills.• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills regardless of context.• The
ability and willingness to adapt and learn as the field changes.• Ability to meet the schedule and attendance requirements of this
position.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree from an accredited institution with a concentration or major
in Education, Technology, or other related discipline.• A minimum of 2 years’ related experience, preferably in a higher
education environment.• Substantial experience evaluating, specifying, and using all types of hardware and software technology that is
or may be used as part of faculty scholarship, teaching, and research at the university level.• Project management skills required as
part of the discharge of required duties and essential responsibilities.• Demonstrated exceptional analytical, presentation,
documentation, communication, and technical/academic writing skills.• Current awareness of trends in higher education technology.•
Experience operating in a fast paced and deadline driven environment focused on academic success and service to an academic
institution.• The ability to de-escalate stressful situations.• Superior proficiency with all common academic software packages
and productivity software including all Microsoft Office products.
