Summary

Under the direction of the Administrator, the Benefits Specialist is responsible for supporting the day to day operations of the Local 26 Trust Office. The Benefits Specialist primary responsibilities are coordinating administration of various benefit plans including Housing Program, 401k Plan, Variable Defined Benefit Plan, Education Plan and Legal Plan. This position is a critical customer interface with the UNITE HERE Local 26 members whom the Trust Office is charged with serving with courtesy and respect.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversees the administration of the Housing Program including determining eligibility, working with member, bank, real estate agent, closing attorneys and other parties to qualify the Housing Loan, submits loan requests and coordinates lien filing and payment processing. Ensures original liens are received. Manages Lien Subordination and Housing Payoff requests.
• Assists Executive Director in the administration of all pension plans. Reviews pension applications and performs pension calculations. Responses to member questions for pension estimates and projections. Works with actuaries on data questions. Coordinates required mailings to members and employers.
• Responds to members’ inquiries on 401k accounts including contribution amounts, investment elections, loan applications, withdrawals and distributions. Coordinates weekly demographic data uploads and interfaces with plan recordkeeper on member data issues. Monitors monthly loan default reports and works with employers on delinquent loans.
• Serves as back-up for Bookkeeper for day to day financial transactions on bank deposits, verifying, posting and recording accounts receivable data.
• Support the preparation of materials for quarterly trust meetings
• Assist in preparing information for annual fund audits and work with auditors on questions during the audit process.
• Represents the Trust Office at events at employer site locations.
• Complies with Trust Office policies on confidentiality of information regarding members, employers and co-workers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

• 3 plus years experience in retirement plan administration required.
• Commitment to supporting service industry employees and their families.
• Excellent problem solving; creativity and critical thinking.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact effectively with a variety of people in a multi-cultural environment.
• Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suites.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Attention to details.
• Sense of humor, flexibility and patience a plus.

Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree desirable but not required; Customer Service skills. Bilingual in Cantonese, Mandarin, or Spanish preferred.

Work Experience:

Proven experience working in customer service functions in benefits administration or third party administrator.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year
