The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences at Florida State
University invites applications for a Chair of the Department of Human Development and Family Science at the rank of Associate
Professor/Full Professor. The College encourages applications from visionary leaders committed to making a difference in the lives of
people. Reporting to the Dean of the College, the Department Chair is responsible for the overall success of the Department, its students,
faculty and staff. 

The Department of Human Development and Family Science includes programming focused on human development,
family processes, and empirically supported relationship interventions. Specifically, our research, teaching, and service activities reflect
our three program foci: Relational development and enhancement of young adults, couples, and families; distressed families and relational
interventions; and the link between parenting processes and relational outcomes. The Department also has a focus on health and well-being
across the lifespan. The Department strives to provide undergraduate and graduate students with world-class academic experiences, teaching,

The roots of
FSU’s College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences date back to the university’s establishment, and it is the oldest college
of its kind in Florida. Recently expanded in 2023, the College is home to six academic departments united through a common goal to maximize
human potential. In total, the College includes the Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies, Department of Educational
Psychology & Learning Systems, Department of Human Development & Family Science, Department of Health, Nutrition, and Food Sciences,
Department of Sport Management, School of Teacher Education, numerous research centers, and three laboratory schools (Florida State
University School, FSU Pembroke Pines Charter School, and The Collegiate School at FSU Panama City). The College of Education, Health, and
Human Sciences serves over 4,500 students via 187 full-time faculty and 73 full-time staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide visionary leadership and
  strategic direction for all academic programs in the Department, including the BS, MS, Ph.D. in Human Development and the Ph.D. in Marriage
  and Family Therapy and the establishment of other degree programs.
• Align the Department’s strategic goals with the strategic
  plans of the College and the University.
• Manage budgetary, personnel, and other Department resources.
• Contribute to and
  maintain Department by-laws, policies, and procedures.
• Foster and maintain a supportive and safe environment for all faculty,
  staff, and students in the Department.
• Lead efforts to build positive relationships within and outside the University that lead to
  the betterment and advancement of the Department, College, and the well-being of the community and the region.

Qualifications

• Earned doctorate in a relevant area of study (e.g., marriage and family therapy, family
  studies/science, human development, sociology, psychology) and academic credentials eligible for faculty appointment at the rank of
  Associate Professor or Full professor with tenure.
• Record of significant accomplishments in research and demonstrated experience in
  securing extramural funding; exceptionally qualified candidates at the rank of Full Professor may also be considered for the Norejane
  Hendrickson Distinguished Professorship.
• Experience in administration, teaching, and faculty development.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in academic leadership, including budgetary oversight and
  management.
• Broad and diverse research knowledge and experience at Research 1 universities-to understand, guide, and communicate
  with faculty working in diverse fields within various paradigms and methodologies.
• Experience in building and maintaining positive
  relationships within the Department, the College, the University, and with external partners.
• Demonstrate a commitment to faculty
  development and advancement.

Considerations

This is
a faculty position.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.

This position is

This nine-month position
includes a partial summer salary for the Chair role as well as an administrative stipend for service during the traditional academic
year.

Proposed start date: July 1, 2024.
