College of Medicine – Outreach & Advising
Responsibilities
Provides administrative and managerial assistance to the Director of the Office of Outreach. This position will assist in the oversight of all local and rural programs with specific attention to the areas of program activities, development, and intervention. Assures that all components, goals, objectives and student outcomes correspond to strategic initiatives developed for the program. Oversees the supervision, coordination and management of the SSTRIDE Summer Institute. Responsible for updating Outreach budget ledgers and reports, maintaining a log of all expenditures and providing a monthly report to Executive Director of Outreach. Responsible for some grant research and writing.
Responsible for working closely with post-secondary programs to identify community partners and set partnership in local and surrounding areas for undergraduate student participation. Assist in overseeing all undergraduate partnerships (former and those to be developed by this position). Works with Executive Director to develop intervention plans for undergraduate students who fall below a 3.4 grade point average. Assists in the supervision of the Physician Partnership Program and the Premedical Clinical Assistant Course, which includes internship programs offered by the Health Science Consulting in primary care settings for undergraduate pre-med majors. Assist in representing the department at schools, colleges, universities and community events. Will be responsible for travel to off campus outreach sites in local sites to observe, monitor and provide feedback on programs.
Responsible for assisting in interview and hiring all undergraduate mentors and staff for the department and assisting with overseeing the supervision of all OPS employees assigned to outreach programs. Serves as immediate supervisor for staff and training staff. Represents the Executive Director at internal and external meetings. Promotes an atmosphere of teamwork in accomplishing the strategic initiatives and the mission of the COM. Assists in overseeing the supervision of college and precollege programs. Reviews time sheets every two weeks. Assist in providing monthly staff meetings for local and all outreach staff.
Conducts advising activities for undergraduate outreach students to include mock interviews, review of AMCAS (medical school) applications and composes letters of recommendation. Works with university Admissions and the Division of Student Affairs at the COM to assure students are provided accurate and up-to-date information about programs of study at FSUCOM and the prerequisites for students’ successful completion of undergraduate programs of study. Responsible for supervising check and receipts and Conference Services for summer camp.
Provides mentoring to MAPS and Undergraduate SSTRIDE students. Serves as the advisor to MAPS. Assists in the assessment and evaluation process for all outreach and advising programs and in securing data for quarterly and yearly reports. Assists in the coordination of activities for annual teacher training program.

The ideal candidate should have problem-solving skills, be able to work in a face-paced, multifaceted office, and know how to think outside the box. The candidate should be able to see the big picture and the small details without much effort. Experience in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds is desired. The individual should be able to balance compliance and customer service, can easily engage with others, and be assertive and diplomatic at the same time. This position takes a unique skill set. Good communication skills are a must.
What is a typical day in this position?
A typical day in this position is working with external stakeholders to establish partnerships so volunteer opportunities can be created for undergraduate premedical students. Provide success coaching to students, develop intervention plans for those needing support, assist with medical school application review, conduct mock interviews, conduct mentor training, and oversee a student organization every other week, as well as answer multiple emails from students, staff, and internal and external stakeholders.
What can I expect in the first 60-90 days?
This position will first focus on our policies, procedures, and what is expected. There will be online training in student central and one-on-one training with the executive director on specific job responsibilities. This position is also expected to meet with each employee within the division to get an overview of how all positions align and collaborate within the department.

Anticipated Salary Range
Anticipated starting salary $50,000 – $52,000, commensurate with education and experience.
