The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist will ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, applicable codes, and policies pertaining to EHS. The EHS Specialist will report to the EHS Supervisor and be an integral part of the safety culture to include helping to foster an environment of continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist in conducting safety audits on personnel, equipment, and materials.
• Develops and delivers training programs educating staff on environmental concerns or health and safety risks.
• Conducts safety training sessions for employees and vendors.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (including OSHA, EPA, NCDEQ, etc.).
• Participates in incident investigations and assists EHS Supervisor with determination of corrective actions.
• Assist the EHS team with striving for safety excellence beyond compliance.
• This position may be involved with the handling of hazardous waste; must successfully complete Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) training within 6 months of hire, and annually thereafter.
• Completes and signs hazardous waste manifest.
• Assist in maintaining hazardous waste inventories and other documentation.
• Conducts weekly inspections of hazardous waste accumulation areas.
• Conducts weekly eyewash and safety shower inspections.
• Conducts weekly lab inspections.
• Conducts inspections of construction areas.
• Fits individuals to respirators.
• Oversees the first responder program.
• Oversees the safety committee program.
• Perform forklift and mobile elevating work platform trainings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements

• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA and NCDEQ standards with regard to the pharmaceutical industry.
• Experience in laboratory, manufacturing, maintenance, and warehouse operations in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Ability to train, influence and motivate team members.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work effectively with employees and management.
• Good organizational skills: ability to respond to multiple priorities and meet varying deadlines; ability to coordinate projects involving input from multiple participants.
• Willing to obtain or currently have forklift and mobile elevated work platforms trainer certificate.

Education Requirements

• BS or BA degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Natural or Physical Science or a curriculum relevant to EHS fields. Combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, SAP, Teams and Gensuite.
