This position requires technician to work in a highly time critical environment. Must have IBM z/OS/MVS Mainframe experience.
Under limited supervision, the technician will provide 24×7 smart hands services in the Operations’ command center – in support of mainframe systems.
Technician will monitor consoles and enter appropriate system commands to perform critical tasks and actions.
Technician will monitor batch cycles utilizing commands and/or features within the scheduling packages.
Technician also has primary responsibility for maintaining and performing day-to-day operational functions, in addition to other Operation technician duties as required.
Technician must be able to utilize extreme attention to detail to follow all established documented processes, using ITSM tools. Service level Agreements (SLA) apply to the timeliness and accuracy of the work performed, which can include substantial financial penalties.
The technician will also utilize independent judgement on the best way(s), or by using best practices, to perform monitoring and batch recovery functions. This requirement is based on not being able to anticipate every scenario, and to timely escalate all unresolved issues. Technician will interact closely with the customer, 3rd party application programmers, Level 3 Technical support, 3rd party vendors and/or other partners to maintain the integrity of the client’s environment.
Critical functions performed by technician include (but are not limited to) the following actions:
Monitor batch cycles using scheduling software
Monitor mainframe system consoles
Perform nightly backups of all production systems
Perform escalation callout notifications, following established standard processes and policies
Perform work under project/change tasks, create/update/reassign/resolve incident tickets
Create/update/reassign/resolve request and incident tickets utilizing ticketing system
Required Technical Skills
IBM z/OS/MVS Mainframe experience
Perform system and batch monitoring on mainframe platform
Execute job abend / job failure recovery per Runbook
Perform system IPLs
Execute daily/weekly/monthly tasks per checklist
Experience with multiple scheduling software package BMC Enterprise ControlM but not limited to
Demonstrate ability to respond quickly and effectively to issues, requests, phone calls
Execute batch throughput and system health to meet SLAs (Service Level Agreements)
Ability to analyze problems and select proper corrective action
Proficient in MVS, JES, sub-system commands
Proficient with reading JCL
Additional Preferred Technical Skills
Working with large environments supporting multiple systems/LPARs and 100,000+ batch jobs annually in a high demand-based service-oriented environment
Experience with establishing and documenting process and procedures pertaining to role and responsibilities
Experience with editing JCL
Ability to multi-task
Process Improvement
Good written and oral communication skills
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel
Experience with Sharepoint
Experience with ticketing systems such as CA Service Desk, ServiceNow
Non-Technical Skills

Shift Schedule
12 hour ‘quad’ shifts (3 on 3 off / 4 on 4 off) day and night shift (US ONLY)
16 week rotation from front half to back half of week (US ONLY)
Weekends and Holidays required per shift schedule
10% occasional travel as required
