Organizational Unit Overview:
Academic Library Services (ALS) is a branch of Academic Affairs and reports through the Provost/Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs. ALS serves East Carolina University faculty, students, staff and visitors by offering library research and services to support the research, instruction and service goals of the University.

Job Duties :
This position serves as RIS “Desk Captain,” creating desk work schedules in consultation with the HOS and ensuring that holidays are assigned. This position works on the Reference desk/chat, email, and phone about 18 hours a week. In addition, this position maintains and organizes supplies for the department. This position prepares classrooms for library instruction, setting up laptops or iPads for instructional classrooms 1415, 1020, and 1418. This position replenishes paper in the mornings, troubleshoots hardware issues in the RIS area for colleagues and patrons (particularly printers and the KIC scanner,) and resets furniture in the Collaborative Learning Center and RIS areas, as needed. This position administers the library’s FAQs and LibAnswers, and is the first responder in RIS for technical questions posed by students and others.
Minimum Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation:
None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
Training and experience delivering reference service and instruction in an academic library, familiarity with federal documents and microforms, knowledge of basic computer applications and ability to troubleshoot basic patron technical issues, strong customer service and interpersonal skills, familiarity with trends in higher education.
