The Augusta VA Healthcare Center is a level 1b, medical school affiliated, two-division Medical Center that provides tertiary care in Medicine, Surgery, Specialty Care, Neurology, Psychiatry, Physical Medicine and Rehab, Primary Care, Geriatrics, and a dedicated Spinal Cord Institute serving a multi-state catchment area. The Medical Center is affiliated with the Augusta University [AU], in Augusta, GA and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical center, integrating clinical care, teaching, and research, making it an attractive academic and research Medical Center.

Responsibilities:

The consultative liaison psychiatrist works with an interdisciplinary mental health team (Psychiatric NP, Mental Health Social Worker) and also with inter-professional teams, including medical providers, nursing, pharmacy, care manager/coordinator/technician, mental/behavioral health clinicians (social work, psychology, other) and others. The consultative liaison psychiatrist provides supervision to rotating psychiatry residents, fellows and medical students from academic affiliate Augusta University.

The consultative liaison psychiatrist works at the medical-psychiatric/mental health interface at the Augusta VA Healthcare Center – Downtown Division to help with patient care, education/training, research/evaluation and administration. The position may include patient care for the following populations including:

1) Medical/Surgical Inpatient
2) Spinal Cord Inpatient
3) Palliative Care and Hospice
4) ED and/or Urgent Care

The consultative liaison psychiatrist advises the medical team on appropriate medications and other treatment strategies, also providing the care team with educational support on diagnosing and managing behavioral health conditions. The models used for care may include:
1) Integrated, Stepped, and Collaborative
2) Behavioral Medicine and/or
3) Health Psychology

Preferred Qualification: BE/BC
