Cornell’s College of Engineering currently offers professional Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degrees in 15 different disciplines. All M.Eng. programs share common goals of advancing the breadth and depth of their students’ core disciplinary knowledge and providing them with opportunities to synthesize and apply this knowledge to practical engineering design problems. Cornell M.Eng. alumni number in the tens of thousands. The M.Eng. Program plays a critical strategic role in the College of Engineering’s portfolio of degree offerings and its continued success hinges upon providing a valuable program experience and comprehensive career services.
What You Will Do
Under the general supervision of the Cornell Engineering M.Eng. Programs Support Office Director, this position works to serve student services needs of over 1,300 MEng students. Responsibilities focus on the successful facilitation of career services to M.Eng. students, including 1:1 advising, small group workshops, and coordination of employer engagement opportunities with the employers who hire them.
As part of the M.Eng. Program Support Team, the M.Eng. Career Services Coordinator will manage and coordinate all professional development services for all M.Eng. students with the goal of increasing full-time job and internship placements. Success requires the ability to build strong working relationships with M.Eng. Program Directors and GFA’s, Cornell Career Services (CCS), the Engineering Career Center (ECC); Corporate and Foundations Relations (CFR); and other university stakeholders. This position will create and implement strategies focused on delivering professional development programming, career advising, and on increasing employer engagement activities. These services will be delivered in a team-based environment with a priority on diversity, equity and inclusion in accordance with the priorities of the College of Engineering and of Cornell University.
The M.Eng. Career Services Coordinator will be expected to provide exceptional professionalism, foster collaboration, and strive for the constant creation of efficiencies. This position requires the ability to listen to and support various needs of the M.Eng. student cohorts and escalate situations if needed to the M.Eng. leadership, CoE, and CU stakeholders.
The M.Eng. Career Services Coordinator is expected to design and coordinate career support for M.Eng. students at a graduate level by leveraging existing resources and applying the expertise required to provide essential and effective career services for the diverse M.Eng. student population.
Actively guiding M.Eng. students through the job search process may include:
* Using job search resources effectively
* Conducting company and position research; interpreting required qualifications
* Developing confidence and self-awareness
* Developing realistic goals and strategies for achieving these goals
* Creating individual marketing materials (e.g., resumes, cover letters, online profiles, etc)
* Writing email messages with professionalism
* Practicing networking skills
* Preparing for behavioral/case/technical interviews
* Responding to interview questions
* Negotiating job offers and managing response timelines

What We Need
* A Bachelor’s Degree and 2- 4 years of relevant experience, working in an educational or industry setting in the capacity of: career advising; academic advising; employer relations; human resources; or recruiting within higher education or a relevant organization.
* Effective computer skills and experience with report preparation and analysis.
* High level of discretion and sound judgment with confidential information.
* Ability to effectively communicate and work with master-level students, faculty, and staff.
* Ability to establish a deep understanding of the M.Eng. program and its needs, as well as those of Cornell alumni and target employers.
* Ability to independently coordinate and deliver career development programs and workshops.
* Ability to establish an understanding of the mission of the College, fostering an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
* Strong organization, communication, and inter-personal skills.
* Ability to effectively deliver detail-oriented work.
* Integrity in order to develop trust with current students, faculty, staff, and employers.
* Ability to work in a team context and to set priorities, managing competing demands and providing timely responses to urgent issues.
* Ability to participate in unit/college events, including but not limited to student open-houses, visits, and receptions.
* Ability to provide advice and assistance to the Director in long-range planning and operations strategies.
* Ability to recruit employers and alumni in order to offer workshops and career development advice for students.
* Ability to communicate, as needed, with prospective students throughout the recruitment process, paying special attention to increasing the yield of underrepresented minority students.
What We Prefer

* This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The position will typically allow for the flexibility to work remotely a maximum of 1 day per week at a location of employee’s choosing within the United States. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.
