Student and Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic, and personal evolution. Sorority & Fraternity Life (SFL) provides support and resources to the 53 recognized sorority and fraternity organizations at Cornell, which is composed of over 3,000 undergraduate students. SFL supports student leaders and their communities as they cultivate an inclusive, meaningful, innovative, and developmental co-curricular sorority and fraternity experience. With a focus on individual and community health & well-being, through advocacy and innovation, we will collaborate with, empower, and support student leaders. Members will engage in developmental co-curricular experiences to create and foster ethical, inclusive, and meaningful communities.
The Assistant Director for Sorority & Fraternity Life (SFL) and Growth Coach serves as a member of the SFL team and will be the primary coach and growth expert to support a revitalization process for over six new chapters within the IFC community. The Assistant Director will meet regularly and support all stakeholders from our newest chapters as well as support the expansion process for any future growth, and will help the new chapters successfully transition into both the Interfraternity Council as well as the overall Sorority & Fraternity Community. This role will facilitate the work of the recent IFC Recruitment Committee to foster a revitalized IFC recruitment process, both formal and informal. As the IFC Advisor, this position will also provide primary support and coaching to existing chapters regarding their membership growth strategies and goals.
The Assistant Director will foster a sustainable IFC fraternity community that aligns with national fraternal industry recruitment best practices through meeting regularly with chapter and council leaders and stakeholders and by providing training and support to both new and existing chapters in the area of growth, retention, and recruitment across the IFC community. The Assistant Director will also use an innovative lens to support and encourage our historic community.
Success Factors
The successful candidate will have outstanding interpersonal skills and possess a growth and recruitment mindset and a chapter and council coaching philosophy with demonstrated experience in both areas. As a specialist for all growth and membership recruitment, possessing a high level of knowledge and familiarity with recruitment and fraternal industry best practices are essential for the person assuming this role. The successful candidate must also demonstrate an ability to innovate, and will infuse inclusive practices to support an increasingly diverse community. Critical to the role of an Assistant Director is the ability to develop and build strong relationships with various stakeholders, including students, alumni, staff, parents, live-in advisors, community members, and campus partners, creating an atmosphere of partnership within sorority and fraternity life.
