The Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role of Statewide Head Injury Program (SHIP) Coordinator. The selected candidate is a professional eager to make a difference in the lives of individuals with brain injury and their families. The SHIP Coordinator is responsible for working with individuals with brain injuries to allow them to remain as independent as possible in the community. Support is provided to individuals and their families, and may include assessing needs for services, arranging for services and coordinating these, and working with other involved professionals. In addition, they act as a liaison to programs, agencies, and organizations by developing assigned areas of expertise such as substance use and children’s services by reviewing topical information, attending advisory boards and task forces that meet to discuss issues as they relate to individuals with disabilities in order to develop expertise and provide technical assistance. They monitor program services including review of consumer progress reporting, regular contact with consumer’s families, vendors and program staff, site visits and participation in case conference. They coordinate referrals, admission transfers to and discharge from appropriate programs. They provide outreach, information and resources to consumer’s families, public and private agencies, legislators, and other officials. The SHIP Coordinator is also responsible for fiscal monitoring service utilization.
One position is located in Central Massachusetts and will include work with homeless individuals. Cases are occasionally assigned out of region.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive):
Required Qualifications:
Ability to travel statewide is required.
Excellent communication skills in oral and written form, solid follow-through, flexibility.
Ability to clarify and to resolve problems and conflicts, and the ability to self-organize and manage priorities.
Ability to work comfortably with remote technology (computer, VPN, remote calling) is required.
Familiarity with the needs of individuals with disabilities living in the community is a must.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of brain injuries is a plus.
Bachelor level training in social work or psychology is desired; MA level training is a plus.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor’s degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the-required experience.*
II. A Graduate degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for the required experience.*
III. A Bachelor’s or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
