Job Purpose:
The career coordinator promotes career success for students in the REACH program by providing an individualized career education, advising, and facilitating ongoing relationships with campus internship sites, as well as local and national businesses and non-profits to ensure students are placed in appropriate internships each semester.
The career coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining internship sites, identifying appropriate workplace accommodations, monitoring interns, and providing job coaching and employer training/support.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field; a minimum of three years of successful work experience in a related field; Or Bachelor’s degree in business with direct experience working with individuals with disabilities; and Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP) Certification or ability to obtain CESP certification within one year of hire. A valid SC Driver’s license is required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; must be detail-oriented with strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and spoken). Exceptional customer service and the ability to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative goal-driven environment with tight deadlines are necessary attributes.
Ability to learn quickly and work independently, manage time and meet deadlines. Requires a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internship site supervisors, employers, students and members of the REACH team.
Knowledge of FERPA privacy regulations is essential.
Additional Comments Regarding Position:
This position is a full-time and work during early mornings, evenings, and weekends may occasionally be required. Some overnight travel may be required, as well.
The career coordinator will be part of a one week on-call rotation every 6-8 weeks. The position requires communication with students during evacuations from the College (such as during a hurricane).

Activity:
Develop internship sites for students in the REACH program each semester; establish and maintain contact with a variety of on-campus and community-based internship sites relevant to each student’s academic concentration and career interests. Visit internship sites regularly.
Evaluate internship site effectiveness, student learning outcomes, and training effectiveness.
Prepare detailed reports and presentations for leadership and the REACH team aimed at providing consistent and complete support for students and interns working in the REACH program.
Monitor interns, provide job coaching and employer support; formally evaluate each intern’s progress toward established goals; maintain records of formal evaluation using effective documentation and appropriate assessment tools.
Process student hiring forms and time sheets.
Update internship information in students’ records, schedules, and evaluation forms.

Educate students in developing learning goals, monitor and evaluate student progress toward meeting learning goals; assess work-related skills developed through each internship relative to future employment goals. Assist students in developing a resume and senior portfolio. Serve as a career advisor and job coach for students in the REACH program.
Instruct and mentor students who are trying to obtain part-time and summer employment in addition to their internships, while supporting them throughout the process.

Promote and market internships to community business, non-profit, and civic organizations. Attend job fairs and conferences to learn and develop best practices.
Collaborate with the senior coordinator to work with Vocational Rehabilitation to advocate for services and summer opportunities for students in the REACH program.

Coordinate all career-development activities and collaborate with the REACH team to ensure student success, this includes meeting weekly with support coordinators in addition to the team meeting.
Handle unforeseen student activities and needs based on individual students and challenges.
Oversee the time, leave, and performance of all student interns in the REACH Program.

Manages (event budget, catering, documentation, logistical planning) and oversees an on-campus seminar for all community-based internship sites each semester

Collaborate to develop curricula and plans to educate community partners on the value of having young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the workplace, the importance of internships and hands-on learning, and their role in the process.
Collaborate with the senior coordinator to advocate for services from the SC Department of Vocational Rehabilitation to open cases and provide summer opportunities for students within the REACH program. Network and collaborate with local and state agencies and employers to develop support services for students in the program.
