Provide American Sign Language (ASL) and other interpreting services for the institution. Coordinates the provision, processing and legal compliance of all interpreting and captioning requests. Provide training as needed for areas related to the ADA, accommodations, fair and equitable treatment and other areas as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. There are two positions available.
JOB DUTIES:
60% – Essential – Provide American Sign Language (ASL) and Interpreting services, for students, faculty, and staff. Services include departmental, interdepartmental, and university committees and meetings, including those with upper-level administration; lecture and lab classes; research meetings and research-related activities; on and off campus events; webinars; and all other university-related events as needed.
Interpreting services to accurately convey high-level academic, specialized, and nuanced content. Ability to sustain service for an extended number of hours and adapt to a weekly schedule that varies with the needs of the University.
Must adhere to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct and maintain professional conduct. Be reliable, punctual, and respectful to all parties involved. Maintain National Certification and skills.
Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal and state laws as well as CU and ACE office policies and procedures. Assist in developing appropriate guidelines as needed.
15% – Essential – Provide intake, coordination, and scheduling of interpreting and captioning services needed by the University; collaborate with requestors to ensure interpreters/captioners have access to necessary materials; keep thorough record of all services provided and relevant request information; work with contracted agencies as needed to provide captioning and interpreting needs if not able to cover internally; and process invoices as needed.

15% – Essential – Provide intake of accommodation requests; document, process and manage requests; fill requests; and process invoices as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education – A bachelor’s degree and relevant program experience.
Two years of paid interpreting experience. Proficient in both English and American Sign Language (ASL). Use of mobile phone and computer. Experience with a variety of computer programs and software.
Must hold current national certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), as required by and in compliance of both federal and state laws.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education – Master’s Degree with ASL Studies Minor/completion of interpreter program. Degree in ASL, Modern Languages, Modern Languages Education, Deaf Studies, Education, or Communications
Work Experience-
Two years of paid interpreting experience. Proficient in both English and American Sign Language (ASL). Use of mobile phone and computer. Experience with a variety of computer programs and software.
Five years of paid interpreting experience, with experience in higher education, including interpreting at the graduate and administrative levels. Deeply knowledgeable about the Deaf community and Deaf culture.
Must hold current national certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), as required by and in compliance of both federal and state laws.
