A Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) is a repository of clinical and administrative staff that serve Veterans Affairs facilities within a Veterans Integrated System Network (VISN). Staff within the CRH are expected to provide interprofessional services to VISN facilities that are underserved or experiencing gaps in clinicians due to the inability to match provider supply with demand. Services provided by CRH staff are conducted via multiple modalities, including virtual and in-person care.
Primary duties are to provide mental health services using the Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PC-MHI) model to multiple VISN facilities virtually and in-person as part of an interprofessional primary care team (PACT). The incumbent works as part of a virtual and in-person primary care team, together with patient site care team members, to provide primary care to Veterans. Clinical Video Telehealth (CVT) and VA Video Connet (VVC) are the primary modalities for treatment, though this position may require occasional travel to VISN medical centers or Community Based Outreach Clinics (CBOC).
Clinical Functions:
1. Perform duties as a practitioner and consultant in Psychiatry within a variety of clinical settings. Will provide routine outpatient services and consultation/liaison services.
2. Responsible for performing the full range of consultation, evaluation and treatment of emergency, complex and routine cases in the field of Psychiatry for a variety of emotional, psychological, and behavioral disorders.
3. Prepared to provide various treatment therapeutics including medication management, individual, marital and group psychotherapies as indicated.
4. Provide therapeutic interventions beyond the individual Veteran to include family psychotherapy and caregiver stress support as indicated and appropriate.
5. Provide participation, professional consultation and collaborative medical support to other professional staff, interdisciplinary teams such as psychologists, advanced practice nurses, social workers and non-behavioral health medical providers to maximize the effectiveness of their interventions and to increase health-promoting behaviors, with a significant emphasis on a prevention-oriented model of care. Such interdisciplinary teams may include Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) and Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT).
6. Align and collaborate Veteran care as authorized with community providers/partners and programs.
7. Support other programs and initiatives, e.g. Behavioral Health Laboratory, Care Facilitation consultation, as indicated.
8. Remain abreast of and engaged in all clinical Mental Health policies, procedures and roll outs at the National, VISN and Local level, e.g. suicide prevention initiatives.
9. Provide education regarding connected care services including web resources and mobile applications to patients and medical staff.
10. Attends and actively participates in mental health activities (i.e., staff development, residency conferences).
11. Prepares and presents educational lectures to a variety of disciplines as required.
12. Provides formal education and clinical education in his/her area of expertise to medical students and psychiatric residents in training.
13. Provides patient education about diagnoses, therapeutic options, medications and related topics when appropriate.
14. Attends training to remain informed on VHA Telehealth/Connected Care initiatives and the latest advances in Telehealth/Connected Care delivery. 15. Participates in program-wide outcome evaluation studies.
16. Participates in systems re-design activities and projects within the context of continuous process improvement.
17. Incumbent uses word processing software and has knowledge of how to type evaluations, treatment plans, and discharge summaries in an electronic medical record.
18. Participates in peer review processes.
19. Attends non-clinical meetings.
20. Completes assigned talent management system assignments as required.
21. Maintains a level of productivity and quality consistent with the complexity of the assignment and consistent with discipline standards, Joint Commission standards, and facility standards.
22. Documents in the Veteran’s electronic medical record chart.
23. The incumbent is responsible for all other duties as assigned.
The employee is under the supervision of the CRH PCMHI Program Manager. The supervisory controls are general in nature and usually deal with matters related to overall objectives, policies, and operations of the organizational unit. The supervisor, CRH Psychology Section Chief, CRH MH Director, the Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health, and ultimately the Chief of Staff may assign work with standing instructions on objectives, priorities, and deadlines.
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday (8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Central Time) with possible compressed work week or a flexible schedule depending on program needs at the discretion of supervisory approval.
