Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm with some evenings and weekends

Definition:
Under the direction of the Recreation Area Supervisor or Recreation Program Supervisor, plans,
coordinates, develops, administers, implements and evaluates organized recreation programs,
classes and activities which may include special events.
Principal Duties:
General Interest focus:
* Secure contractors for programming with a widespread variety of general interest areas for
ages birth to adult.
* Create and maintain yearly Agreement for Service Contracts with active vendors.
* Respond to program inquires to create new classes.
* Using the online registration system, enter class activities, sections and schedule programs
for each brochure season.
* Maintain contractor billing statement records and reports for finance.
* Oversee, plan and manage the Longmont Summer Day camp which includes:
o Recruit, hire and train day camp leaders
o create weekly day camp activities
o reserve and secure offsite field trips
o manage online camper packets using ePACT
o purchase program supplies
o maintain staff records, camper files and remain compliant in all areas of School Aged
State Licensing requirements.
Depending upon assignment, may perform these Essential Duties:
* Coordinates, develops, schedules, implements, supervises and evaluates a variety of
recreation classes, programs and events; including, but not limited to special needs
programs and/or youth programs, athletics, day camps, general interest, educational,
outdoor, fitness and wellness, and special events.
* Maintain awareness of new developments in the field of assignment; incorporate new
developments appropriate into programs.
* Identifies community and customer needs and interests, assesses program responsiveness
to these interests initiates and develops new program elements and/or curriculum,
including partnerships with other community based organizations.
* Coordinates instructional programs; including registration, record keeping, evaluating and
scheduling. Coordinate instructor and/or contractor training, evaluating and scheduling.
Schedule and coordinate facility use and purchase or obtaining supplies and equipment.
* Coordinates and/or performs program pre-planning duties for assigned programs, classes
and activities to include written projections of costs and fees. Analyzes and makes reports
of post-program budgetary outcomes.
* Administers and reviews program participant evaluations for assigned programs. Analyzes
and uses findings to increase program and instructor effectiveness.
* By position, plan, organize, implement and evaluate special events and/or assist with
special events.
* May organize, recruit sponsors, determine schedules for and administer the logistics of
team league sports competition and team and individual sports tournaments.
* Interviews, selects, trains, schedules, supervises, mentors, and evaluates staff, contractors
and volunteers.
* By position, conduct emergency drills and evaluation of staff on a regular basis.
* Assume the duties and responsibilities of direct reports as applicable and necessary.
* Plan and conduct regular staff meetings and/or trainings.
* Maintains work records; including personnel files.
* Recruits and guides the work of instructors and volunteers to achieve quality program
delivery. Coordinates and supervises program sites.
* By position, inspect facilities on a consistent basis for cleanliness and safety.
* Responsible for proper use and care of materials, equipment, supplies for programming.
May be responsible for facility care and upkeep.
* Maintain cordial and professional public relations with citizens calling or utilizing the City
recreation facilities. Enforce policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of
patrons using recreation facilities.
* By position, provide facility supervision, maintain a positive environment, and assist patrons
by explaining policies and procedures.
* By position, organizes and/or directly oversees the programming and/or facility and
provide program administrative support.
* Promotes and markets programs by preparing marketing and promotional materials and
schedules for publication in brochure and other media with end result of increasing
program participation and awareness of the City of Longmont Recreation.
* Coordinate programs, facilities and events with community groups, businesses and
organizations. May also coordinate with local schools.
* Publicizes recreation programs and other offerings by creating, producing and distributing
printed and social media materials. May contact media and or maintain Web and social
media content.
* Provide assistance in the development, oversight and monitoring of assigned budget;
participate in eliciting community funding agency financial support for program; monitor
and track expenditures to ensure compliance with program budgets.
* Provide all customers with prompt, courteous and respectful service, and de-escalate
stressful situations.
* Make budget recommendations and make purchases for programs, events and facilities.
Maintain records of expenditures
* May be responsible for opening and closing of facilities; including seasonal opening and
closings.
* Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.
Working Environment:
Work may be performed in a variety of settings both indoors and outdoors with a wide variety
of temperature and weather conditions existing. Subject to many interruptions and to varying
and unpredictable situations indoors and outdoors. Work environment may be noisy. Requires
upper body strength to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 20 pounds.
Qualifications:
Any combination of experience and education equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor’s
degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Recreation, or a
related field plus two or more years of experience in planning, implementing and supervising
recreation programming. Minimum of one year of supervisory experience or demonstrated skills
and training in supervision. By position, previous experience in youth and adult sports
programming, coaching and/or officiating. Special
Qualifications: Duties assigned are generally
complex and may be of substantial intricacy. Employee is responsible for determining time,
place and sequence of actions to be taken. Ability to ensure all practical safety measures are
observed and ability to utilize all required safety equipment. Current Certifications in First Aid
and CPR/AED, Community First Aid and CPR/AED Instructor, and Concussion Training or ability
to obtain within 6 months of hire. Working knowledge of Recreation registration, reservation
and POS system software. PCI Compliance training.
